    What Christian said.

    What I recall...

Modern conventional oils are formulated with the assumption that your engine has roller tappets. I understand that every manufacturer uses roller tappets now for efficiency.

Diesels experience similar loading to flat tappet engine's tappets in their wrist pins, so they benefit from an engine oil with high ZDDP (zinc) content. However, oil manufacturers have been working to reduce the ZDDP levels in diesel oils too - hence CJ-4? Diesel oils also have very high detergent levels, because of the higher amount of carbon (soot?) due to the diesel combustion. Supposedly a high ZDDP level will foul your oxygen sensor and/or clog a cat, but I don't know how severe that problem is.

I run 15-40W Rotella T in the Jeeps - they seem to like it. Rotella T is ok for gasoline engines too, according to the label.

Valvoline Racing Oil is another good option.

well you can stop looking, there is no fuse box. iirc, there are a few inline fuses and a breaker attached to the end of the light switch, but no fuse box

    it's my own fault.
with no mechanical or electrical experience
i put myself in the position of having to learn every aspect of an old jeep right now.

    trial by fire.
as far as the manuals i have purchased so far.
they better have crystal clear photos or it might as well be in chinese.R)

Just hang in there unclebill. If you can post on a web and post pictures (using computer) you have more than enough ability to completely rebuild this Jeep. They are relatively simple. Some tech things you will run into are discussed on this site. Search gives you an idea of how to ask the proper questions so these guru's can put you in the right direction and they do it gladly. That's one of the reasons why Sparky got this site started. Many folks on here started from the same place you are right now. Oh and there really is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to Jeeps. These creatures have a mind of their own and do their best to put you to the test. Enjoy. R)R) :coffee::coffee:

like i said on a previous post.
i hired a willy's nut buddy to adjust the valves, timing etc. while i watch.
now that i know there is NOT a fuse box .
i will just start crawling around until i find a fuse.....

BTW what is that plexiglass thing i posted a photo of?
and where do i mount it?
    it's just dangling.

Due to the age of the vehicle, many people have had their hands on it and each one has their own way of fixing things. Many people ad a new wire when needed and don't remove the old one. This only adds to the confussion. Dont let this bother you. By the time you get this rig right, you will know it by heart. Sometimes when extra lights etc. are added, they will put in a terminal block (as shown in pic's) or a buss bar for making splices in the wiring. These are usually removed by new owner. They are trouble areas after a few years. The wiring fuses are normally in line and are found behind the speedo/gauge area. You wont have very many of them as most of the electrical is protected by the circuit breaker mounted off the back of the light switch.

You only need three. Its better if you run those three wires down the drivers side because one wire will come off the lite switch (left side of veh) and the other two from the turn sig sw (also left side of veh) and that is if your rear lights have the dual element bulbs. Even if you have a towing package (3 wires) plus elec brake.

There are wiring diagrams in the Tech section that I gave you a link to in your brake switch thread. They are accurate and indicate no fuse box is present.
