That looks like an AMC era fuel filter. You want the return line at the top of the filter.

I have never had Vapor lock, maybe Michigan don't get that hot? We stay in the low 80's most of the summer.

What year is yours? My 70 has the return line built into the sending unit. If yours doesn't have that , probably a 90° bulkhead fitting...
