Good progress but I think your gonna need to spin the front hangers to have the eye forward.

The frame is an inch longer and the mount is under the bumper. I like the front “ramp” rather than a “hook”. I’m sure it will be strong enough. The axle should end up about an inch forward of stock.

Shackle hanger welded to the frame 2” up from the bottom then this fishplate doubler welded over the area. 4 plates total.

Washed it with some hot soapy water then blew it off. After drying a bit I wiped it down a couple times with Mineral Spirits.

Got the springs and D30 temporary mounted. Welded the spring hangers in place. Here’s the shackle angle with no engine, transmission, winch or front clip.

Three of us sat on the bumper and bounced as hard as we could (no shocks) and couldn’t bottom out the shackles on the frame.

The spring hangers are so much wider than the frame I added 4 pieces of 3/8 plates for more support.

Covered the ends of the square tube I used to space the springs down. The 1/8 strap wraps under and captures the front of the spring mount.

This has been a lot of welding! Saginaw mount is next.

    Steering Saturday.

Started on this - pipe through the crossmember.

Snuck into Jeff’s brother’s house to use his machine. Jeff making the standoffs for the steering gear.

Also made 2” long tubes to weld into the top of the frame. I’m not sure I needed this but I’ve seen it on a couple builds and it all becomes part of the mount and these will be hard to rip out.

A lot of welding in the past couple weeks and I’m finally starting to put down some decent beads.

This vertical weld looks a little thin. I’ll put another pass on it tomorrow.

had one very thin weld but decided to put a top weld all the way around the steering mount.

Did pretty good fitting in a 3” pipe with just a couple of 4.5” grinders unfortunately with the spud shaft clamp being inside the pipe I’m going to need a little bigger pipe.

I was wondering about that as your mount is pretty far to the rear. You may need a short pitman arm to make that work. Not a bad thing though.

I was looking at that but being reversed he needs to unload the springs to get the minimum distance. As the axle gets loaded down it will move backwards.

I know I messed mine up by welding everything solid before loading the suspension.

On mine I was working 30min at a time, I walked in the garage one day and thought it looked too far forward with the jeep in the air... moved the mount back. Then the next day instead of putting it on the ground and looking again I just walked in and started welding.

I’m a fan of getting it done and driving my Jeep as well. Some folks can look at it for a few days - triple check - not me.

My hurry up attitude bit me already. Jeff and I discussed fitting the winch plate to the frame just this morning. I went and painted the frame without even pulling it down from storage.:banghead:

    But the frame looks great!

So, does this mean that your spring eyes will be level with each other?

I’m calling the front suspension done for now. So Cynthia helped me push her out and turn around. The rear is all loose except the parking brake cables and I’m going to try to do the next steps with the axle under the jeep. Like I did in the the front, I’m taking out the RR bolt on kit for weld on brackets. The shackle angle will be much improved and it should loose an inch + of lift from the brackets.

Here’s one of the brackets I removed from the rear.

Holiday is over, kids are gone. Time to get back to work. This rear spring hanger would have ripped off with one more wheeling trip.

I’m cutting up the last bit of 2x3 for repair and boxing the rear most frame areas.

Now 2 sides are the original frame and 2 are cut up 3/16 rectangle 2x3.

First time in 7 weeks she is sitting on 4 wheels. The rear spring hangers are only tacked on to see the shackle angle.

Shackle angle looks much improved. It will get a bit more compression when the transmission, bumper and spare tire/carrier are put back on.

Now I need to pull it back apart, burn everything in and paint.

    So….
How much weight was in the Jeep?
    Fuel tank status?
    Simulated wheeling supplies?
That seems like allot of angle for an unloaded Jeep.
    Just my .02

    Is the shackle boomerang backwards?
