Did another project on the '71 today. Almost as big of a project as changing the wiper blades.

    It's got a 1970 Buick 350V8 in it.

    Success (y)
been chasing a mid throttle stumble for months now . not that I drive jeep everyday . more annoying than anything
    1'st attempt . change plugs . nope
    2'nd attempt . points , condenser , rotor , cap . nope
    3'rd attempt . wires . nope
    got to be fuel .
4'th attempt . changed pump and filter . nope
must be the carburetor . have rebuilt one sitting on shelf
Forgot who posted it not too long ago . but it went like this
"90% of carburetor problems is ignition related"
this got me thinking . what haven't I changed  jeep seems to idle fine and will run down highway , till you want to mash the skinny pedal
do I really want to change carburetor
5'th attempt . went to FLAPS . got a new coil . gee 40 bucks now
It's all fixed again . runs down the road like a scalded dog :bananatool:

100 miles on odometer! There's an annoying oil pan drip at the back, maybe rear seal. Parts on order. It's supposed to be 70 towards the end of the week. Tops coming off for a few days before it stays cold. I'm having so much enjoyment now, the leak will have to suck it for awhile. Plenty of time for that over the winter.

    Crap, mine did the same.:censored:
I changed the oil pan gasket, no help. Changed the rear main, no help. I finally decided the oil was coming from up higher on the pass. side, seemed to be from the head gasket. I have just now got it put back together, dont even have coolant back in it yet. Wish me luck!!:worry:
I wish you good luck with yours!

Huh. I changed the oil pan gasket once already. Figured it was the main. I'll have to take a closer look. Good luck to you too!

Spent a night in frustration on the '71. I had recently put in Pertronix ignition with a new coil/wires. Then I wanted to do some minor tuning to the Edelbrock carb. It was running decently good, but didn't like to start after a heat soak and I wanted to put spring loaded float valves.

I Put in an aluminum heat shield under the carb, added the sprung needle valves and set the float level. It was running decent, but had a bog at high RPM/load that kind of felt like it was running out of gas. Before I started changing jets/rods/springs in the carb, I wanted to make sure I wasn't having a starvation problem.

New fuel pump and filter went on today. Still having high load/RPM issues. OK, time to play with the jets/rods. Moving richer or leaner doesn't seem to make much difference. Putting in stiffer springs seemed to help maybe a little. ...and then the Jeep died and will only kick a little if you crank it a long time. Choke, pumping the gas, holding the throttle wide open don't seem to make much difference. Adding a few gallons of gas to the tank didn't help either.

With the Jeep dead 800 ft down the driveway, I had grab my wife (who was getting ready for bed) and tow it back to the shop with the ATV.

When I find time for the next round, it will probably start right up, but I'll wait it out and check fuel pressure and spark while it's having issues. Hopefully it won't be too hard to figure out what in the world is going on.

Could be an issue with the new Pertonix ignition/coil, or I've got junk in the tank clogging the pickup, or.....

Sigh. Not a very satisfying day, but better all this is happening here at home and not out on the road somewhere.

Sounds to me to be possibly a sort of " a not hot enough spark " problem . Does your distributor have any play in it's shaft bearings ? Just think'n here..............

Had a 3b with the F-134 once. It would start missing just like a skip on one cyl at about mid throttle and mid RPM range. I changed every thing except the tail lite lenses and the coil (it was only a couple months old) Guess what it was!!!
