I think*, they are the 79-86' variety. Pretty sure there are a few other years that work too.

Well, its been a month, and I haven't gotten jack done on the 6. So i got a little motivation this am, and decided to start working on the rear bumper. Since the commando frame I am using had a little too much rear overhang, the factory rear cross member went the the scrap yard when I cut the frame down to length, this bumper will get to serve double duty. So I started with a length of 4 X 3 X .250.
Marked out my cuts, and started burning through a pile of 4" cutoff wheels.

Got both ends cut, both ways. And fired up the ol' Millermatic.

All in all, not too bad. $18 worth of cutoff wheels, and a couple hours in the garage.

Still need to grab some .250 plate at work this week, and finish boxing in the the ends. And find someone with a plasma to cut in the holes for my spindle, receiver, and some clevis mounts. FUN!

Way cool! The project looks good. I need to make a bumper to somewhat match my front. Thanks for showing how you made your layouts and cuts.......

Two days in a row, I might be on to something. Burned the tire carrier in this am. Wish I would have thought about it a little harder, looks like I have it offset to the pass. side by a couple of inches, and burned the hub in a couple of inches too high. Guess I'll get to find out how much stress the tire is going to put on the spindle the hard way... Thanks for the use of your bandsaw Nickmil!

Well, thanks to a bunch of rain, we got to cut the camping trip with the in-laws at the beach short :). So I figured I better make something of what was left of the weekend.

That's coming out sweet! More than welcome to use the bandsaw anytime. Hey, you didn't call me to let me know you were back in town! I've got that part for you in the Cherokar..... Can drop off tomorrow after work if you want...

Got a little more done on the bumper/tire carrier today. Just need to get my plate drilled to match a spare spindle, burn it on, and get the latch on it.

Got around to putting the 71' Commando Saginaw bracket on today too (thanks Nickmil).

With the high steer arms, and the stock YJ pitman arm, the drag link looks like it will fall really close to parallel to the tie rod. Just need to bang the pitman arm off, and switch the taper to the top, and bore it out to accept the 7/8" TRE's I am using.

Not really. Got the pittman arm reamed out, and put the drag link on. Gonna try and get the trans bolted to the crossmember this weekend, and go kill some ducks.

Got a good pep talk from Nickmil on our browns camp trip the other weekend, and found some motivation. Been busy getting parts ordered this week. Picked up some slots out at R&P, and have my new km2's at the shop being mounted this weekend. Drove over the river on Thursday to see Herm and get an OD. Got the front calipers on today. Have new body mounts and bushings to install, a new sending unit for the rear tank. Have a Fiero radiator on the way, as well as an HEI. Still need to find a gearbox brace, and a track bar for the rear.

Had a little debacle with the OD. Had to call Herm and have him talk me off the ledge. Sounds like I am not the only person to have issues with my Novak shaft. Ended up taking the spud into work last night and turned .002 off the OD, and about the same from the root...problem solved, crisis averted.

    Pics tomorrow

Well, its a little bigger than I thought it was gonna be. Might have to take a leaf out if the body doesn't flatten these springs out some more. Looks like my NT+ ford hub front axle got me just wide enough the tires don't rub at full lock (1/8" clear). Whew!

Got the overdrive all buttoned up too. Should turn 2200 rpm's at 55 mph.

Nice! I think it will settle, you still have a lot of weight to add.

I agree. Add the body, roll cage, interior, winch, etc and it will settle.
    Looking good!

Looks like the Fiero radiator is a winner, just need to fab some brackets to mount it.

Started trying to figure out how to extend the shift linkages for my 18, and my overdrive.
