If you use the drum hub with a disc rotor the runout will be too great. Machining the backs is a crapshoot. Find disc hubs new or used ( bought new ones off slamazon, Crown likely didn't have any trouble with them)
Edited: my comments if you are using a traditional setup with the rotor on the backside of the hub. If you're rotors slip over the front, probably good to go.

I’m using the traditional setup with disc on back side. I’m gonna need to set this up and see if it will work and see if I need to locate a disc hub. Still trying to remember if I had switched out the hubs when I set up this axle.

I like the width of the d30 I’m running, 53” WMD, I could go up to the wide track, 56” WMD, but that might open up a whole can of worms…. Changing out to wide track rear end centered then a Dana 20 transfer case……down a rabbit hole

Came home yesterday to find my distributor sitting on the front porch. I had sent this into DUI distributors because one of the posts holding the spring for the vacuum advance was broken. They had contacted me and told me that the shaft was worn and needed replacing. When I opened the box there was a brand new 1” extended distributor in the box, I know it’s not my original because mine had been ground down to clear the intake manifold bolt. I’ll drop this in today and see if I can get JEEP to fire up.

I used National oil seals for the hubs.

    IMG_4415.jpg
I used the Timken set 45 for the bearings
    IMG_4414.jpg
I got passenger side all installed.
    IMG_4412.jpg
Drivers side, I used the extra hub I had. This one rubs the disc brake bracket, because it isn’t flat on the back side. I ordered a new one from Partsdude, should be here Monday.

Got the distributor installed and the motor fired up. Need to pull it and move it 1 tooth because I ran out of room to advance it. I’ll try to get this done tomorrow.

I moved the distributor 1 tooth over and adjusted timing. New distributor really makes a difference now that the advance is working. RPM’s seem to come up a lot faster. The new front hub should be here in the morning and then I can take JEEP for test drive.

Ok, I ordered fuel injection back in June before the Rubicon trip, they were back logged and then they finally sent out the kit they had put together at the end of September. When I ordered it I had told them that I was going to run it off a crank trigger and they said they were gonna pin it in. When I started laying out the wiring harness on the floor I discovered that they had not pinned in a pigtail for the crank trigger. I contacted them and went round and round with them about his, with them telling me that they don’t do that. This was the whole reason that it took so long to get the system they were supposed to be building the harness to what I wanted. My conversation with them this morning didn’t go go very well, bottom line is they are keeping the system and returning my money. I called Howell and confirmed that their kit includes the crank trigger and wiring for it. This was ordered and is on the way should be here by end of week.

Only if you have a pisspoor machinist. We had probably at least a hundred machined by a quality machinist before disc hubs were readily available. Some of the new disc hubs are far worse than the machined ones ever were.

I got my hub in the mail yesterday and was struggling to get the wheel studs in with BFH… I normally go to my buddy’s who has, (had) a 20 ton harbor freight press but he wasn’t home yesterday. Went over this morning and made short work out of pressing the 5 studs in. I now have a new to me 20 ton press in my garage, my buddy said he has only used it once for himself and I’m the only one that ever uses it so he told me to take it home, only cost a 12pk of Sierra Nevada. Whoohoo!
Took hub and rotor home and got it mounted up and it fit perfectly… thank you Sam (Partsdude).
JEEP left the garage for the 1st time since early September.

The test run didn’t go as planned…got about a mile down the road and carburetor backfired and the motor died and I coasted to the side of the road. I Knew exactly what happened, I’ve had an issue with this since I took it to the body shop back in 2023, when it back fires it forces the butter fly to wedge closed and it won’t budge until you unscrew it and force it open. I didn’t have my tools in the JEEP or my phone so I had to walk home to get the tools I needed and walk back to fix it, only took about 2 minutes once I had right tools. This time I removed the butter fly completely and was just gonna limp it home. When I was on way home the JEEP was running much better and stopped popping. I think I figured out my issue is carb related (CHOKE).
I’m done with this carburetor, looking forward to the fuel injection.

I have 1 other issue I need to address..last year when I was on Rubicon I started hearing a squeal when I pushed in the clutch, figured that it might be the throw out bushing, been in there since 2006 when I switched over to the sm420. Today while I was driving around every time I pushed in the clutch I could hear what sounded like a chattering sound, also did this when I would get off the gas. I think I’ll Waite until I get fuel injection installed before I drop tranny and transfer case.
