This is my 1970 CJ5 that my dad bought brand new back in september of 1969. It has the Buick V-6, 3 speed with over drive, dana 18 single stick transfer case, flanged dana 44 rear end and dana 27 front end. I bought it from my Dad back in 1984 when I got my license. I drove it for 3-4 years then parked it in my Grandmothers garage and forgot about it for 20 years.
When my Grandmother passed away I brought it home and parked it in my garage. It wasn't until the fall of 2008, when I took my Daughter deer hunting with a buddy of mine in his jeep, when she asked me to get my jeep running again did I do anything.
This is after a new 1.5" lift was put on, along with new rims and 32" Pro Comp tires. I also added disk brakes to the front, but left them manual:

Some time in March of 2009 I added a SM420 4 speed transmission with a Novak adapter, hydrualic clutch, power brakes, and swinging peddals to the jeep, and power steering.

I love the last place plaque.......just hilarious. I grew up in Stockton so maybe it just hilarious that Sherwood Mall would have a 4wd show. :)

Anyway, good work......can't wait to see it finished.

74Renegade, I don't think it was a car show that was being held. My parents belonged to a local jeep club, and I think it was some thing to do with the March of Dimes charity. I had already bought the jeep from my Dad, and had painted it in shop at school. One of my Dad's friends from the club had the plaque made and had stuck it to the dash, and we just left it.

After I tore apart the whole thing I started to look for a "new to me frame". After I found one I fit it for wider springs.

Very Cool. I love that someone went through the trouble of making a last place plaque and that you are proudly displaying it. Awesome. Keep up the good work.

After the front bumper was done I started plating the whole frame. I first used 1.5"x1.5"x1/4" angle iron on the inside of the frame rail, both top and bottom. I then used 4"x1/8" plate to box the frame in. On the front horns and rear horns I used 4"x3/8" plate to box these sections for more strength.

I then made room in the cross member for my power steering. after notching it I plated over it with 1/4" plate.

    Looks Good!
It would look even better if you had some argon/CO2 instead of using flux core wire. Try it, you will love the difference.

It's been awhile since I have updated post. I have finished frame, (welded and painted). I have re-built the motor, tranny and transfer case. Rebuilt the rear end, (posi, bearings). Also fitted rear end with 11" brakes off the extra Dana 30 I have. I also fitted my early 70 with a rear tank to go with the original front one. All the gas lines have been ran down the frame. I also have finished plumbing the brakes. I reinstalled the original front dana 27. I'm waiting for a gear change and an ARB locker for the front dana 30 I have, then I will install it. I'm in slowwwwww process of doing body work.
Pics soon to follow on progress
