The Tux you linked has a lot of correct Tux features, but is far from a correct stock example. As nice as it looks, don't use this as an example for restoring one as there are many things that have been added or swapped that are far from factory correct.

those wheels and hubcaps don’t seem correct. The renegade 1 had larger Kelsey Hayes wheels and no hubcaps. Also had a chrome front bumper. As seen in my avatar. Also the reflectors both front and rear are all wrong.

I am not a Renegade expert, but from what I understand in the 1970 model year some CJ's came with reflectors on the hood and some had them in the fenders.

The hubcap logos in both of these appear to have the Kaiser colors, rather than the later red & blue used by AMC. Maybe these photos were actually shot by Kaiser in late 1969 or very early 1970?

Not sure how many of you have seen this so I'll
Post it. It goes with the color photos I posted above of the renegade 1

That statement is written as if it were fact for all 1970 Renegade I's. Think it may need a fact-check. In looking at 1970 Renegade I pictures on the internet one can't rule out other possibilities from the factory or dealership. Just saying, for the benefit of the thread .

A few supporting documents for my statements but by all means anything I say is just my opinion gleaned from reading on here. I will say the jeep pictured appears to be just what you describe, a Jeep with a lot of dealer options but not an actual renegade 1, IMHO.

As I said before the reflectors don’t appear to be Renegade nor do the hubcaps in the photo above. Renegades had specific style reflectors which has been covered here before. Chrome bumper and 8” wheels are mentioned on this renegade build sheet as item #8 and #4
    [IMG]
The Jeep pictured above lacks reflectors part # 35-23A..977895...........Kit, reflector, rear quarter panel ( Renegade ), the recessed smaller reflector pictured in the photos I posted.

On closer inspection the Jeep picture we are discussing also appears to be lacking the right heavy duty spring packs. Also, I don’t see a heavy duty frame on that Jeep near the front frame horns.
    I think i have a renegade 1

As for the wheels looks like there where two sizes according to the parts list but 15x8 seems most common and there are many threads on this topic.

Below are additional comments on specific parts.

    # 948722 I believe these were stainless steel trim rings ?

    # SE-2073-200 I believe this number is a typo. I think it should read # SE-207-3200. Seen above are the only two examples of the SE prefix in use. I believe "special equipment" may be inferred.

    # 984277 Notice the numerical sequence of the Renegade I, II speed stripes.

This indicates a fairly close proximity yet a certain timeline distinction.

    # 977895 This could turn out to be a crucial determining factor. Still researching.

    # 948666 The Renegade ammeter is not the same as earlier optional ammeter # 928267.

    # 1399524 I suspect that Renegades all had a specified compression ratio. 9-0 to 1 ?

    # 943292 I believe the Renegades were equipped with HD cooling. ?

    # 942015 So did Renegade use the 5 or the 7 blade fan ?

    # 943021 I believe the Renegades had a HD alternator ?

    # 928266 This bracket also was used with earlier optional ammeters.

    # 931383 This part confirms that all Renegades had a 4.89 differential ratio.

    # 937384 Distinct features of this large hole transfer case includes the 16 T speedometer driven gear and a 10 spline mainshaft gear.

I have noticed a very unusual transfer case mounting not specified in the parts catalog.

    # 941052 Nothing special about the front axle except the gear ratio. Powr-Lok was never factory available for this axle.

    # 990033 This special frame first shows up around the beginning of the 1968 with the advent of HD frames.

    # 947287 These ( 4 )spacers drop the rear engine support crossmember.

    # 925940 Another rear spring possibility ?

    # 916092 I believe this was the rear spring that is typically used on Renegades ?

    # 9xxxxx A variety of visors were optional at the time. Which ones ?

    # 976523 This dash pad was an option of the time . Was this on all Renegades ?

A few known Renegade 1 photos I’ve collected all have the larger wheels and proper reflectors.

Interesting my R-II base price was almost $100 more then the R-I base price approx. 10 months later. Guess Jeep did not really raise their year to year price much back then.

Found a few more photos of a renegade 1, they all seem to have the same reflector style. Some have the right seats and other stuff some don’t
