Just taking a survey for comparitive purposes. If you don't mind please list year motor and anything special. Thanks Andy.

Oh Tim you worked at a dealer right? Do you remember what the window sticker listed as MPG or did they not do that yet?

    Mine is:

    74 CJ5, 258 - 20 MPG.

Last tank was 11mpg. That was at 15psi in the tires. I aired them up and now I'm checking it again. Also, that was all in town driving, 0-50 and back numerous times. No highway driving.

Last tank was about 12 mpg for a 37 year old 225 cid. Just rebuilt the carb and replaced the fuel pump. The white smoke out the tail pipe is gone, and my gas gage has been pegged at full for the 20 miles I have on the current tank-o-fuel. Dang, I hope I don't have a bad fuel sending unit as well R) .

Yes, but I can't cite any numbers. I was really young then ;) and did not understand the value of that experience, so the surviving documentation is sparse. The CAFE standards started in 1975 (near the end of my stint), though I would think that the sticker would show the expected mileage before that. Anyone with their factory sticker would have that number.

I vaguely remember that my '73 304/4.27 got in the low teens, and the '75 CJ6/3.73 with a full steel cab in the mid-to-upper teens.

    Don't own it anymore, but my '71 Cj-6 with the 225, headers, NV3550, 4.88s, and 31s got 17mpg

    My '97 TJ (4.0L auto, 3.07s, 30s) gets 16.8mpg

    My '99 XJ (4.6L, overdrive auto, 4.88s, 33s) gets about 13.5mpg

Don't know what the 270hp 3.5L flattie gets, but it's pretty good on fuel. Probably around 13mpg.

I drove about 80 miles on a 1/4 tank (about 4 gal.) and am getting around 20mpg. This was all at speeds of 45+ and mostly highway driving (95%) with the soft top on. My engine is a stock 304 with a rebuilt carburetor and a DUI distributor. Tires are 205/75-15's at 33psi. I have the timing set at 10 ATC and don't remember offhand how I have the carb adjusted. I should add that before I put the DUI distributor on, I was getting around 9mpg, but there was something wrong with the distributor at that time and I was running 33x12.50-15 tires.

My 80 CJ-5 with 258, DUI distributor, 32x11.50 tires, 4.10 gears and corrected odometer got 13.66 MPG on the last tank full. I run my tires at 25 PSI. Perhaps a little more pressure would yield a little more MPG. This 10% methanol stuff doesn't yield good MPG. My 2001 Chevy S-10 with 4.3 went from 21 to 19.5 MPG.

'74 CJ5 w/ 258. 18 on the street. 12 off road. That was with the Carter YF carb. I'm in the middle of a MC2100 swap, I'm assuming it will go down a little.

74 CJ5, 258, all stock & original carb, albeit rebuilt. I get 16 avg. Almost never drive over 50 MPH or on an expressway.

1975 CJ-5 Glass body, 304, 3 speed, factory 2 barrel carb, threw out crappy Prestolite ignition and put points distributor in, 3.73 gears and 31x10.50 BFGs. AMX free flow exhaust manifolds with custom dual exhaust out the back. I get about 15-17 MPG.
