Bought an Optima tonite, only the best for my Jeeps. ;)

Well, the TJ's getting the new one, Eugene gets the 6 year old one from the TJ that's still going strong.

Tried to start to hear this "rod knock". No go with the key.

Bypassed the key and did it direct. Still no go.

Looked at the starter, the end of the solenoid is missing, the bakelite type material where the terminals are is 1/2 gone. Well, duh it won't start.

Went back to town to get a V6 starter.

Now you'd think after running this page for how many years I'd know the different V6's. I told the guys it was a 225.

Starter wasn't right for a 225, the one I took in wasn't that was.

It cross referenced with a 215 V8 starter.

Huh. Then I started thinking on my way home.

Double checked the casting number, GM 1349430, then I looked again at the bellhousing shape...

Ok, revoke my Buick V6 Jeep card now I guess. ;)

Yeah, that's what I thought you were alluding too.

    So it seems that Eugene is a 1969 CJ-5, originally an F-head, w/ a Commando VIN and 198 V6. :D

Red Top Optima was $109 at the FLAPS.

There was one for $119 with the side terminals lower on the side, that's not an issue for me.

Waiting on a starter now. :D

    Cool.

I need the double-terminal setup, I run bolts in rather than terminals for stuff like the OBA - works slick.

What series or size is it, please. I had to buy a new battery at Walmart when at Tellico after my little disaster but my boat needs a new battery and I may put the Jeep battery in there and the Optima in my cj.

    Re: Eugene Update

I'll let you know size/series in the AM.

As I recall, both are the same size, a small battery.

The new one has 80 less cranking amps. Only 920 CA and 720 CCA seems like. Old one was 1000 CA and 800 CCA.

Not a problem for a 4 banger Jeep though.

I've fried a red top at tellico 2 yrs ago (remember Mike?) got a new one on warranty (Now the other Mike has it). 109.oo at FLAPS. We had a little issue w/ the DD XJ battery a few months ago so I just went down a got another red top. Its been sitting on my bench ever since. I have plans for it one day. . .
