Mrs. B. and I dragged the ‘72 CJ5 out of the shop and pushed it into the back corner of the pole shed with the tractor.

The Willys wagon will be on the front burner, and the -5 will have to wait.

Every time I look at the CJ, I’m more discouraged by what it’ll take to get it roadworthy. I do have a replacement frame but still need an engine (SBC) and either a pickup load of sheet metal or lots of new body parts.

Let’s see if I can post a photo regarding my CJ and Willys. I didn’t realize she got a pic while I was moving things…

I tore the first padding off the roll cage and used 1 1/2" foam pipe insulation. Then Daisy and I loaded up and went for a drive.

The frame is looking a little better and the owner is very pleased with the progress. I wanted to strip it to bare frame but it wasn't my call. I wire wheeled off the heavy stuff and started to sandblast the hard to reach areas.

Moved the '66 CJ about two feet back in the garage and swapped the bad battery out. Hopefully in the next couple weeks fill up fluids and roll it out.

    More progress on the fhead.

I was using a chamfering bit for the pin tap (by the exhaust seat), which made a mess of things, so I went on without it and the results were much better.

Installed a 7/16-14 Keensert and dressed the excess pin material.

I removed the broken exhaust studs and installed a heil coil in one hole.

I saw it and immediately thought of your CJ5. I was passively looking for a 455 for a few months but couldn't stomach the $800+ price tag and just happened across this one at my local junkyard.

They are great torque motors. A 455 would be amazing in a Jeep.

Pewe's 455 powered flatty was known to continue running upside down.

At 600lbs it isn't light but it's only 70lbs heavier than a small block Chevy with iron heads and intake. Way more low end torque though.

Truthfully, that's not being fair to the F-134. It's around 470lbs, so lighter than a Chevy 350 but heavier than a Buick 350.
    • Buick 455 - 600lbs
    • Small Block Chevy with iron head/intake - 530lbs
    • F-134 - 470lbs
    • Buick 350 - 450lbs
    • Buick/Duantless V6 - 380lbs
It's funny that not only does the factory V6 make more than twice the horsepower of the F-134, it weights less too!
