I've never had any luck cleaning up and reusing copper crush washers. New ones usually have circumferential (Sp?) grooves that smash flat to seal when you tighten them. Once they are loosened back up they dont seal right again. Nice Jeep by the way. Love the perkins!

These ones don't appear to have ever had had the grooves but who knows. I'm gonna pull one back out and see if I can't source some new grooved ones for both sealing the injectors and return lines at maybe Fastenal or Napa. Stay tuned.

I would be surprised if you can't find the whole seal kit for the nozzles and the return lines, lots of Perkins fuel injection places listed online, if you don't have a fuel injection shop close by. If you have to use a copper sealing ring again annealing it is about the best chance you've got.

The 4.192 seems to be the red headed step child. Very little service info or parts information out there on the web. Time to dig thru books.

I popped an injector out last night and will do some looking today on my lunch. May have to start finding old shops in agricultural areas....lol. I wish I knew if any of the 4.203 parts interchanged.

On a much closer inspection I can just barely make out two sealing ridges on one side of the existing copper washer.

New copper rings installed this weekend and all but number one are sealed now.....Beginning to think #1 has an issue other than the copper ring to seal the combustion......

Swapped out the stock rear springs on friday for the old Rancho's and it lowered the rear slightly but improved the ride dramatically. Also took it on a snow run with a group on saturday morning up to Snoqualmie Pass/Tinkham rd. Got stuck a few times but was a fun day all in all.

    Well this....

    turned into this...

And yesterday I sent my list of needed part to rebuild it to Herm. Should see parts and a shifter next week sometime I'm guessing.

I haven't worked on the 6 much lately, but I have been collecting parts. I dismounted the old tires off of a set of old white spokes that I plan to sand blast and paint in the near future and then mount a set of half worn vintage Formula Desert Dog tires I've been storing for far too long for the right jeep... I'll keep the radials mounted for street driving cause the old Desert Dogs are akin to "driving on marbles". I also picked up a used OR fab swingout tire carrier that mounts on the tub and holds a couple jerry cans as well. I need to find some smooth steel corners to hang that from but am having trouble finding any that are of substantial enough thickness that I'll feel good abut hanging the carrier from them. I do plan to have a cage built this summer as well. Stay tuned!

After this weekend the jeep now has all body mounts holding it to the frame again along with 1" rubber mounts isolating it. It's amazing how much quieter it is now that it's isolated from the frame. Should be ready for another jeep outing this upcoming weekend!

Swapped on some nicer front shackles, and put the heater box back together yesterday and while checking things out found the feed line for the cold start was leaking. The hose had deteriorated under the braided part and cracked. Visited the local hose shop and they came up with this. Will fit it tonight and cross my fingers. The condition of the original hose may explain why the cold start rarely functioned. I don't thing much if any fuel was actually making it's way to the intake and heating element.

I will get a 1967 CJ-5 with a perkins diesel engine in it. I plan to install it in my CJ-6. Do you have any advice or tips?

Get the Perkins to run in the 5 before you start swapping is about all I can give. The Perkins is a cool little motor to have, but can be a bugger to find parts for. Make sure you get all the Perkins specific parts off the 5 and swap as much from the 5 into the 6 as you can. Might even want to swap the dash and wiring harness. There's not much to them, but if you're missing specific parts...Good luck finding them. You'll need to learn to be creative.
