New Perkins CJ-6

It's on the ground now too. Lookin pretty good for an old beat up farm jeep.

Got the leak fixed last night after the Seahawks squeaked one out.

This is where the bottom line leads from the reservoir.

I think the leak issue was a partially clogged return line to the fuel tank. That was causing excess fuel in the reservoir. I put about 120 psi to the line from the res to the tank. I wasn't able to get all the old fuel out of the system before the first fire up. I should have pulled that line and blown it out when the tank was out in retrospect. I did find a Viton square cut o-ring that works absolutely perfect to seal the cap on the reservoir. ARB part # 160205

 

Picked up the drivers seat last night from the upholstery guy. It looks great but my picture sucks. I'll get it installed tonight and take it for a spin around the block.

 

Wow.......I drove it around town last night for the first time.... Holy smokes does it have alot of grunt down low. Idle to about 2000rpm it pulls well. Much over that and there's not much there which leaves a top speed of about 45mph at 2500+ rpm. And that's with swapped in 3.73 gears! If ever there was a candidate for an Overdrive.....this is it! It would make the split between 2nd and 3rd a little easier too. This thing literally is a tractor in jeeps clothing.....lol

 

That sounds like a Perkins! I wonder what kinda top speed a 30 percent overdrive would give.

 

lol.....30% of 45mph is 13.50...It might squeak out 60 under the right conditions with an OD. I'll check with Advance Adapters and see what they have.

 

I'd check with Herm, seems like they have less issues based on what I've seen on this forum.

 

Made it to work this morning. Took me 10-15 minutes longer than usual. Got out on the freeway last night with it. GPS verified 62mph. Speedo reads about 45-50 at that point. Little faster than I first thought. Still needs an OD. =)

What an inspiration! It's been a while since I've visited ECJ5. My CJ6 perkins project had stalled last spring when my busy season came along and I moved in August to boot. My project is carefully stored away until I have time for it again. Keep up the pics and good work!

 

And a cool project it is. I referred to your build thread more than once before and after I picked mine up.

 

What was the Jeep group? And where did you guys go? Also... I really want to see the vid, but don't have FB. Is it on YouTube?
