Serial Number Or Vin Questions

    Here is my ID # 83050 17 361078 Does that mean that this was built mid 69?

    It has the two peice limited slip D44 rear axle. There is no sticker on the dash.

    It was built in september of 1969 which makes it a 1970 model, new year models start in august of the previous years.

    Dating CJ by VIN #

    Just got a notice that there is problem with my title. Seems something dosn't match. The PO told me it was a 66. Can we at least date this maybe by VIN?

    Plate on firewall says 8305 200332

    Yes, that's what the document that this thread is about does. See the first post for a PDF file that has tons of information in it besides just VINs.

    There are tables there that can tell you when your Jeep was made.

    Made in Oct/Nov. 1965 which makes it a 1966 CJ-5, what doesn't match?

    My frame number is 14523. I have read the VIN document and that number seems to indicate a 1955 frame however I really would appreciate some expert confirmation in reply to this post. My firewall data plate does not match and the Jeep was an import to Thailand and is 'bitsa this and bitsa that'. All comments appreciated:)

    My serial number is 8505 11557 and paint code is 395. Neither of which are on the document - any thoughts?

    what type of jeep? 8505 does not come up on any of my doccuments. please check and make sure that is the correct set of numbers.

    It's a DJ, not a CJ, hence why it's not in the document. :)

    8405 = CJ-5 open body.
    8505 = DJ-5 open body.

    Yep, 1966 DJ-5 built June of 1966.

    There is an error in the document where starting serial numbers are listed which needs to be corrected. I guess we should update the document for the other models also.

    Can someone help me out.
    I think I have a CJ-6 but I'm not sure.
    The numbers from the plat on the driver side are 57748 20932.
    Is this a CJ-6? If so what model year is it?
    numbers from the passenger side are 177 paint code 162 trim code

    Gator, I'm not trying to be rude, but have you checked the document itself first? The CJ-6 part is pretty clear if you do. :)

    no build date sticker or color code sticker that I can locate.

    The person I bought it from said he bought it from a couple that were the orginal owners and used it behind their RV. They got in southern AZ. which makes sense, since it had emissions stuff on it. I assumed it was shipped to S. California. thats the only history I know of it

    My 72 cj5 has no build dates ticker but I have a government nominclature plate that says it was delivered in January 1972. Would this than have been built in 71

    By checking the engine codes I found that it was built September 71 would this be the same for the whole jeep
