howdy all, new to the forum here and just working my way down from the top. I am the new owner of a Mystery 69 cj5. I was told it was a military jeep but I'm still researching it. I do know the VIN number and I know it was manufactured in windsor ontario. The VIN is 8305C17358155. Thanks for the info so far and I'll post more about my jeep and some pics of my rookie rebuild later. If anyone knows anything that can help me send me a message on here. One of my concerns is the "factory" winch. The feller I bought the jeep off of said it was factory, but I don't think it is. It's a ramsey 8000lb winch. If anyone knows anything about it lemme know as well.

My '69 is serial # 8305 C17 358814. The plate says it was "manufactured by Kaiser Jeep of Canada limited Windsor, Ontario, Canada". My grandpa bought it in California, and I hauled it out to Oklahoma when I moved here.
:v6:, 3spd, single stick, shackles are reversed, but I don't think it was factory.

Thanks for contributing. Does your Jeep still have the build date sticker on the dash? If so, the month of manufacture would be helpful for our project. It appears to have been made very close to the switch over from 1969 to 1970 model years.

If it is in plain view on the dash, then no I don't have my vin sticker. All I have is the shift patterns.
If I answer the rest of the questions, would that help?

I have sent off my info on my jeep earlier, but after looking at what everyone has posted I found a jeep that was built 7 before mine was and thought that was cool. So I like everyone would like to learn as much possible about my Jeep. So here is my info:

My Jeep is a 1967 CJ5a Tuxedo Park, I've been told that it may or may not have been the last tuxedo park to roll of the assembly line.

my vin is 8305017 360772

so it should be 70 built in aug-sept 69
but i think the PO took a latter cj5 body and put on a 70 vin plate

no tail gate, no tool box, rear fuel tank, no under seat fuel cut out, amc 304, th350, sagsaw steering, but frame had old steering parts,

but did have d27, flanged d44, dana 18 twin stick.

is there any other things I should look for?:?

Hello all, Finally brought my project home, Po said it was a 68 CJ5 but the Vin says its a 66.
8305 200548. You have quite a collection of info. available ( Thanks for all work it must have been to compile all this data). Can you tell by the vin # other things like original paint color, motor, Tranny ect. ect. It came with a Dauntless but the vin implies it should be a 4 cyl.? It has a 3 speed and twin stick transfer. Currently it resides on a trailor in pieces other than a rolloing chassis in my backyard so any requests for more info is easily obtainable.
The Dauntless has KMH 134 on the block below the right manifold and "1375162 1 GM" on the rear of the block.

Thanks for contributing, the 2 at the beginning of the vin in 66 did not indicate a 4 cyl, they didn't differentiate until 69 when they introduced the 3 for v6, so the dauntless could be original. another interesting note is that you have the earliest 66 vin we have seen yet on here showing a build date of November 65.

sounds like someone combined 2 cjs, body and engine from later model into an earlier frame, then threw in a th350 for good measure.

I think your Jeep was built October of 1965, but your engine (from the casting code) was built the 134th day of 1966. I think your VIN would have an A after the 8305 if it was originally a V-6, but I'm not sure. Sorry I'm not more help.

OK I have a 68 cj5 with fuel tank under seat, tool box, tailgate, bottom mounted wipers with a arched winsheld it has the 225, dana 18 single stick, the tranny was changed to sm420, the vin on the plate of the fire wall is 8305017245218

yup thats what i figured out to when i got home
