Pulled the engine. Removed the trans/tcase and started removing the stuff I need for the other block. I was looking closer at the other block and I think I'm going to tear is down and at least have the block hot tanked. The cooling passages are full of stuff that looks like mud. The pistons are marked "STD" so this block has never been bored out. If everything else checks out I'll bottle brush hone it, slap in some new bearings and rings, paint it up and send it.

About 3 hours of work to get it on the floor, another 45ish to pull what I pulled off, but still have a few more parts to go.

If you tank it, the cam bearings have to come out and then get replaced.

There's only one, and it's at the very front, so no a huge deal. Probably a good idea to replace it anyway if I have it that far apart.

Both Jeeps are actually down, CJ5 is almost down for the transmission. The Cj5 can be driven, but the clutch drag is horrible, and it's a mother to get into gear once it's warm. On top of that, 1st gear popping out on decel is getting worse. At the very least the clutch needs to be addressed, I think what happened is, it's a three finger style pressure plate and I didn't realize that they need to be adjusted when you install them, I did not do that, it's the first non diaphragm style clutch I've dealt with, and I think that's coming around to bite me. Unlike the CJ2's T90 the CJ5's T150 doesn't have an inspection cover on top of the bell housing so the only way to get in there and adjust it is to remove the transmission at a minimum. But if I'm going that far I'm going to go ahead and replace it with a diaphragm type clutch.

I'm also trying to find a T150 locally that I can just swap in place of my current T150, but that's been hard to find. I figure finding a working T150 may be cheaper than replacing the internal parts. When I rebuilt that transmission, I put a lot of the old parts in that were questionable, but I went ahead and rolled with it anyway. The main shaft had some pitting and the synchro assemblies looked ok to me, but obviously the 1st gear assembly is bad or the main shaft has too much wear and is allowing the 1st gear to wobble and drive the sliding clutch off, either way if I take it back apart it's getting a new main shaft, 1st gear and synchro assembly, and new blocking rings. I'm looking at about 340 dollars in parts before another 110ish for the clutch kit.

A little ray of hope is shining though as a Jeep buddy of mine that owns a shop may have the transmission I need and if I know him there's a good chance I'll get it at a deep discount.

Speaking of, is there anything needed to put a diaphragm style clutch in there vs the lever style that was in there?

Yes, 3 groove wide ratio. I ran them for about 33 years but changing directions now.

Been workin on the mock up for the T18 swap for the 3B
    [IMG]
the bell housing I had available had a hole that was questionable, so all 4 of them got tapped out to 9/16

done a lot of grinding on the t18 to help clear the twin shifter stand (not the D18 that I"m actually gonna use here).
I followed some other folks lead on the bottom, right side mount hole. Thanks Fireball

red solo cup is easier to keep in one piece than a glass one. Seem that i keep breaking them.

What pivot stud are you guys using for the clutch arm? I'm sticking with floor pedals and the AA chain linkage.

You can grind quite a bit off the transfer case shifter ear to clear the transmission also. Done a bunch of them. Just don’t get too thin. I do them with the pivot pin in place during mock-up.

I see you're even making a bracket for the lower right bolt in the belhousing like I did. Cool!

I put a new plastic gas tank in my J truck. The original one fell out on the road and dragged along at 25 mph for a bit.

Luckily a Jeep guy stopped and helped me throw the tank (with 15 gallons of gas in it) in the bed and towed me home!

I thought it was the exhaust and was just going to power through it. Glad I decided to stop…

Got the tub off the CJ5. Doing a few mods to make it better.. 4 wheel disc brakes, dual reservoir mc, adding a rollbar (I'd like to add a front hoop as well), and wheel well notch. If I'm missing any other quality mods to do to this that don't pertain to off roading; drop me a line. It's going to be used for riding around the lake and Sunday cruising.
I won't be painting the tub but I'll probably be the one having to try and fix the rot. Going back with the same green color.
Made the first parts order. $2k... The owner said we've already gone over budget and I said Oh, we're just getting started.

A small thing. In preparation for off roading in Shasta-Trinity forest with buddies this week, I traced the wiring and got the CB radio and Stinger charger to function. Yeah I know, CB's are passé. My new philosophy is if a tool is broken, it's worthless. So I had to try and fix the radio or dump it. 20221018_172202.jpg

I still have a working CB in mine. I don't know if there are any truckers that still use them or not, but channel 19 is not like the old days. It was better entertainment than TV in the 70s.
