My 67 CJ5 build

Discussion in 'Builds and Fabricators Forum' started by Johns1967CJ5, Dec 11, 2013.

  1. Generally you want to have clean cuts on those rope seals so nothing will prevent the machined metal surfaces from coming together flush. A dab of silicone at each end of the rope should prevent any leakage.
You will need to apply pre-lube to all the crankshaft bearing surfaces to prevent a dry start. I am sure you already know this but just in case. ;)

Yes, thank you. I use assembly lube on it. I also ordered another rope seal. Just not comfortable leaving it like that

X2. Work hard at it with multiple razor (utility knife) blades if required to get a smooth surface cut. Be sure to use the proper sealant (resistant to petroleum) at these ends.

didn't see it anywhere in your others posts, but I'm interested why you didn't go with a modem neoprene seal?
if your going for original or authenticity I get it....

  5. You might try cutting your old rope seal with tin snips and see if it gives you a clean cut.

When I took apart the motor it didnt have the cam thrust button and I believe it never did. The timing chain cover had no wear or marks from it. Did the discontinue it at some point ?

Ask - people love to show pics of the motors... I'll take some pics of the 225 I'm about to put back in the '49 while it's out. Pretty sure it's a Buick Green on that one.
