Take the manifold to a machine shop, and have them machine a bit-----1/8" might do it, off the surface where it bolts to the head. The machining needs to be a wedge shape, just kiss the top, and the 1/8" off the bottom. This will tilt the manifold inward toward the block at the bottom.

You will have to enlargen the mounting bolt holes a bit, maybe even turn down the shank of the bolts if needed.

Go easy with it, a small wedge cut will make a large difference at the pipe flange.

You could loosen the bolts and try pushing the pipe flange away from the U joint, and look to see how much of a gap is at the top of the head mating surface, will give you a better idea of how it will work.

    Good luck.

Mike. The manifold has already been machined. I had 1/4" removed. Any more off it and the manifold will be too thin. My last picture shows it bolted to the head.

Was that 1/4" taken off equally top and bottom, or did you have them make a wedge cut like I mentioned above?

Well told the machinist to wedge it. He did a little maybe not enough.

Update. The exhaust manifolds are on and the steering had been moved to go around the manifold. I also have been working on getting the fuel pump installed in the tank.

I've been working a lot of weekend. So I haven't been working on the Jeep. Today I finished the fuel lines and still need to strap the tank down.

I feel really good. Finished most of the wiring today. I just have a few wires to do under the dash then I'll be done. The hard part is almost over. Spent all day working on it. Glad it's almost over. You should see my garage floor. It's covered with wire.

I found the best place to mount the ECM. It's right below the battery, on the back side of the fender.

I also changed the way the battery was being held down.

All as I need to do now is to hook up the battery and see if it runs.

Looks like nice progress. I don't know if I missed it, but did you list a consolidated way to work through the wiring needed on one of these? That has always been a big factor for me not to mess with one.

Well. The wiring is the hard part. I still not sure if I got all the circuits right. I spent a lot of time studying the factory service manual. Even now I have my droughts. I will see when I get it started. Hopefully it won't throw a code.

The one time I helped with one, it took a lot of beer, and that was AFTER we got frustrated. He ended up getting a harness from someone else, and I never did get how they finally got it to work... He moved several years ago, so I'm hoping you can help take some of the mystery out if it :)

I'll try. I just haven't got to the point where I can start it to see if I've done it. Give me time. I plan on doing a video when I start it. Hopefully it's good.

I'm not in a hurry - its something I want to try one day, but I don't have a project for it right now.

Tried to get it started today. Doesn't start and I'm not sure why. I did find a fuel leak from one of my fitting. Thought that might be the problem. It wasn't. I think I may have to take the covers of the wiring harness and trace the wires again. Very discouraging.

toss a timing light on it and aim it at the injectors, if you see sprays of fuel in the strobe, check the firing order.

I still haven't diagnosed it yet. I spent this weekend putting things back together. I still need to get it started so I can have exhaust put on it. Other then that. It's all together.
