    I'm baaaaack!

Ever since I sold my '71 CJ-6, Project Hatari! I've wanted another CJ-6. This one almost literally fell into my lap. Details of just how I got it and exactly what it cost will come in a couple months after I tell the story in Jp magazine. Needless to say, it was a screaming, yelling, scratching, clawing deal.

The previous owner had a brand-new set of 33x12.50-15 Baja T/As on it that were worth some real money, so I brought along my old set of Bajas from my '99 Cherokee...and '73 Comman D'oh projects. They were on both vehicles. We swapped wheels/tires and then loaded 'er up.

There's no steering or brakes. There's a Saginaw box in the tub, along with the steering column from the Chevy Blazer that donated the engine/tranny and the original column. I'll run the gennie column.

Axles are out of a '78 CJ and have 4.88 gears. Disc brake D30 front and Model 20 rear. Rear has Superior shafts and a locker. Not sure what kind yet.

Paint is ORIGINAL on body and windshield!!!! Several bubbling rot-through spots, but I'm not complaining. Wish I had all the original stuff he yanked out of it like the seats, seat frames, fuel tank, etc, but that's been gone for years.

Mmmmmm, black plate. Never noticed the stock fronts are stamped with the model year. Yeah, this is a '63 CJ-6.

Drivetrain is a Vortec 4.3L out of a '95 or '96 Chevy Blazer. The Blazer's 4L60E tranny is there, mated to a Dana 300 with an Advance Adapters adapter. I'll have to do something about the front output clearance 'cause there is none. I'm thinking a driver-drop Bronco or Waggy front axle and a flip-kit for the D300 or maybe an NP231 if I can fit it between the frame.

Lots to do, but I'm stoked. This will most likely be a family-sized version of what my orange flattie is. Probably gonna run 35s or 37s with some wider axles, a good cage, and seating for five. Goal will probably be to debut it at TDS in March.

    Welcome Home!

    I love the black plates!

I am looking forward to this build thread.

I see a compressor, I'll be interested to see if you retain the A/C or turn it into OBA (good article fodder).

Good point, so I just grabbed a flashlight and gave it a closer look! Found some bondo. Guess it's been repainted, but in the original color. At least there wont' be 10-different shades of color showing as I add rock rash over the coming years. :)

The plate 63 was the last year that they sold the plate (or mailed them). After that they sold the tags.

Didn't have a clue, Steve. Guy e-mailed me out of the blue yesterday about the Jeep and offered it up at a rediculous deal. I actually gave away/sold a BUNCH of stuff I could've used on this rig last weekend!

It would look good with a set of 15x10 black KH wheels on it, including the spare which I didn't take down there as it still has a tire on it.
It'll be fun watching/reading about this build.

This is the exact engine I am putting in my project, mine came from a 1994 Chevy S10 Blazer.

Glad to see it fits the engine comp like it was designed to be there.

    I will be using a SM 465/D18.

Looks good, keep the information and photos comming, I will be interested in how you deal with the radiator
