    Hey everyone...

Just took apart my D25 on my 55' Cj5 for the first time to freshen up everything during my resto. When I took everything apart, I noticed that there were NO shims at all in there, top or bottom. I saw some literature that mentioned there was a factory installed shim on the bottom up to 1961. Should there be shims in this thing somewhere or is it possible the knuckles were swapped over to later knuckles at some point?

The '49 or '50 (not sure which) and newer only had shims on the upper kingpin. They were probably omitted sometime during the past to tighten up worn bearings or who-knows-why.

Get a fish scale, disconnect the tie rod ends for the steering, and make sure it takes 15 or 16 lbs to move the knuckle. Any more and you should add some shims to the upper kingpin.
