I haven't seen this specific question asked. I know there is some interchangeability...but I'd like specifics.

I have an opportunity to buy a very good condition 69 frame, with wipers at the top. I am in need of replacing my current 74 frame due to rust issues.

Aside from the wiper being at the top (and vacuum operated), is the frame identical in shape, size and angle? I'd like to re-use my glass from the 74, and I have a bikini top that I'd like to re-use.

If..."They are all interchangeable with regards to soft top and hard tops as the overall outside dimensions are the same and the height, and angle are the same"...refers to the 4 different styles of windshield frames, then the frame itself is okay, the issue seems to be in the glass height where my 74 is slightly taller. So I would need to buy new glass.

    Correct?

yes, it's not a '69 WS either, it may be off-of a '69 as you acquired it, but they had the tall glass or at least bottom mounted wipers by then with the short glass.

I've seen plenty of places that sell 69+ glass...how hard is pre-69 glass to come by?

It seems from the early CJ forum that the best bet is to have it cut at a local supplier.

    Yup.

Not many, if anyone, sells the correct glass for the top mounted wiper frames. Best to have it cut and fit properly.

I scratched the idea. The frame was good, but I'd have to buy it plus the glass, plus probably the electric motor conversion for the wipers. Too much trouble for what I needed.

    Good choice imho.
The bottom mount wiper w/s frames are considered an upgrade to the older Jeeps. The couple of inches the glass is higher in the w/s frame makes a huge difference in visibility and you get much better wipers to boot. I'd look for the bottom mount wiper w/s frame. I've done this to all my Jeeps and am much happier and I'm just under 5' 10" tall. If you're taller it's even worse.
