I just installed this bumper on my 74 cj5.

it is designed to fit the 1987-1995 jeep wrangler. but with less then 30 min of time and a small amount of modification it fit beautifully on my jeep. Now I want to install the matching side rocker panel bars.

again these ard designed for the 1987-1995 jeep wrangler. they bolt directly to the side of the frame. So my question is ....does anyone out there have a jeep wrangler or access to one within this year span. I need a measurement from the frame under the body to the side or edge of the tub body so I know how deep these bars reach. I can then figure out if I can make them work on my 74 cj5. Can anyone out there help a brother out.

I've got an '89 in the driveway. I'll take a measurement for you in the morning.

I don't have a Wrangler to measure, but I'd be concerned about the length of the bars as well. Wrangler's are a 10" longer wheelbase (distance from front to rear axle) than a CJ5, so those bars may not fit.

A YJ frame isn't flat. The framerails angle inward at about mid-door opening.

Distance from framerail to body tub varies from about 12.5 inches at the rear of the front fender opening to about 8 inches at the front of the rear fender opening.

Thanks for the help dummy, So If I understand you correctly. the jeep rail measures 12.5" from frame to face of body at the rear wheels and 8" from frame to face of body at the front wheels. Is that correct? Also where on the frame is it sloped? In your opinion do you think the two flat flanges of the bar would end up on the sloped section?
    Thanks for your help.

No - you've got that backwards. 12.5 (ish) on the front and 8 (ish) on the rear.

It angles in at around mid-door.

I think for the money you could get something similar custom-built. It's not hard. Two bends and some flanges to bolt 'em on. Or I'm sure some there are already some bolt-on tube rockers for CJ-5 available. None come to mind at the moment and I'm a little busy to look right now. Poison Spyder Customs had 'em for '76-up CJ-5/CJ-7.

if they are the right length you can just cut off the flanges and extend or cut down the pipes and weld them back on. it doesnt show under there anyway
