Things dont turn into a fine paste rapidly, takes a bit of time.

That fine paste went everywhere inside the TC. And it isnt that fine.........

Clean, clean, clean. And then clean some more-----the magnet idea is a good one.

If it were mine, I would do a teardown, and inspect all bearing/friction surfaces well.

guess my optimism was premature :(.....got the OD parts today and put everything back together. I started the Jeep and put it in gear and when I let off the clutch it stalled the motor, tranny is still locked up.............
Not sure when I'll start the teardown, am really frustrated right now

That really sucks, Jim. Before you tear the t-case out you might want to pull the top of the tranny and take a peek in there. How was the endshaft play on the tranny when you had the OD out? Since the tranny and t-case don't share oil, the only way for tranny parts to get into the t-case would be through the rear output bearing on the tranny. That's not likely. Could also be just coincidence that there was a problem with the OD and the tranny at the same time. Take a deep breath, don't let the frustration get you and just do it.

still looking Jim.......individual parts are EXPENSIVE!!!!......waiting to here from one more source before I pull the trigger.. Border parts in SD and Novak have what I need but I'll be into it for $400+ that route
This being a FSJ T18 isn't making finding a complete tranny easy either (kicking the dirt)

In the 70's I had a 64 CJ-6 that I did a Chevy v-8 conversion on and ran a Warn OD to make the 5.38 ratio more highway tolerant. This thread brings back memory of the instructions that came with the overdrive. I seem to remember that the installation instructions warned against compressing the snap ring too far when installing it. Seems that it would have been nice if the snap ring was springier/stronger. I also worked on a friend's overdrive back then and can remember removing a snap ring that seemed too soft or came out too easy.

Ok here is the main shaft I purchased along side the old one. The "new" one is on the bottom, there are some slight differences in the middle of the shaft. It looks like it'll work alright to me
    what do ya'll think
