The one on the bottom is a T-19 shaft, one on top is a T-18 shaft. As noted, they don't interchange. That sucks BKD. You got it at Border Parts didn't you? Jon will take care of it I'm sure.

    Edit:
Just a heads up. The only thing that makes them not interchangeable is the one snapring groove (third from the threaded end) that doesn't line up properly. The shoulder towards the front doesn't matter on the bottom shaft. Some T-18's had a built in thrust surface (the shoulder) and some used a snap ring and removeable thrust plate. Doesn't make any difference either way as they are interchangeable. The extra snap ring groove (second from the threaded end) doesn't hurt anything. It's all in the spacing of the snap ring groove and where the gears ride.

thanks Nick that helps educate me for the conversation with Jon tomorrow. IIRC he said he had several mainshafts.....hopefully one will be a T!8

by the by......the surface thats damaged on the original shaft (3rd gear area) is gouged out...if that were machine surfaced round leaving the gouges what harm would there be running the gear on it???

Depends on how deep and where the gouges are. I'd have to see a pic to determine whether it could be run or not.

Yeah, pic is too blurred. If you can get a better one later that would be good.

    Hey Jim,
Glad they have what you need. It sucks to be sitting around waiting for parts, especially when you are ready to get to work.
Looking forward to your updated progress.
