I have a 1975 cj5 original renegade, but I dont know which of the 2 decals for my year goes on.

This one says its first half of 1975
    [IMG]

and this one says 2nd half 1975
    [IMG]

so How to know which half is my jeep.

On the Levis material, no way to tell if the original bits are gone, AFAIK.

Re the Renegade decals, the change was in mid-year, so you can guess based on the production date. Early was probably black&white, late likely gold.

I suggest you pick the one you like. If you can't tell how it was equipped originally, why do you think your Jeep was a Renegade?

I will just have to chek the production date. And about how I know it is a Renegade, its because i cheked the VIN plate and everithing tells its a renegade: motor, transmision, and specially the color code name (RENEGADE ORANGE).

but thanks anyway, I will chek the date by the VIN

The mark across your hood in your avatar appears to be in the location of the "late" decal shown above. It's a little picture so it's hard to tell, but thoguht I'd mention it.

Ok, according to the parts book, the Golden Eagle company is wrong.

The book lists three different Renegade decals for 1974. There are two black-and-white stripe designs, depending on where the stamped letters are below the cowl (high or low). The book also shows the gold decal style for 1974, 1975 and part of 1976.

So, the book says a '75 has the style of the gold decal, in either gold and brown, or in blue and orange. Not gold and red, as shown above.

The book also gives two Levis trim options for 1975. Code 500, blue Levis vinyl, or 501, tan Levis vinyl. The trim code appears on the VIN plate.

Your paint code should be 584 for Renegade Orange.

I'm glad you are so enthusiastic about your Jeep being a Renegade.

Yeah the PO had it like that (not really my style). IMO i really dont like any renegade decal, I like the way it looks without it, but since mine is a original renegade (not a phony) well I'll might as well represent it; (take some pride in it R) )

timgr thank you a lot... specially for the code on the interiors, wasn't sure if mine was Levis but yes. code #584 (Renegade orange) and code #501 (tan Levis vinyl). Wish it would still have them on but unluckily I bought it like that.

and about the renegade decal, the correct one is the golden one then. In the back of my mind I kinda knew it, because I like the black one best, but all in all, I want it to be correct according to my year.

Yeah (about being so enthusiastic about my renegade) thank you for that, (like I said earlier) I like taking in some little pride in having an original renegade not some phony garage made one.

 Seems as though you believe owning/building/driving "some phony garage made" renegade (or jeep) is a bad thing, I hope I'm missunderstanding your post.
Many, if not all of us own at least one of those "garage made" jeeps and are damn proud of it even if'n it aint a renegade.

Sorry if it sounded like that... you are far from what I meant. i was talking about some people who dont have a renegade or golden eagle but claim they do, and even put the decals on; and they are just kidding thereselves because i dont like the facts that some people like to claim what they dont really have.

And dont get me wrong I actually respect more a "garage made" jeep because its made with the owners sweat and (maybe) blood. I actually envy those who can do work on their jeeps because I don't really know anything compared to them.

Like i said earlier, when I talked about "phony garage made one" I was talking about a Jeep owner claiming his got a renegade, because he painted it and put renegade decals on it. Actually over here in Puerto Rico you see a lot of "not Renegade" jeeps having renegade decals.

Really sorry if it sounded that bad..

I would like to remind people that "Renegade" in the early 80's was "painted it and put renegade decals on it" case in piont was the 4cyl stock Renegade.

Don't want to step on toes, but unless a person knows what he is looking at, the Renegade package could be anything.

I own a 74 Renegade and in the process of restore back to org with better options. Every person needs to look at the Renegade for what it is. Options, decals and bigger engine, but not always. As you said any one can "painted it and put renegade decals on it" but unless some one wants a org Renegade they should and need to do homework.

There is nothing wrong with some who builds it, in my book it is better than some one who buys it. (unless they can and will build it and keep it right)

I DON'T want to step on toes, if you mistake some thing it said don't take offense.

As Far as decals. Can TIM please post the three options for the 74' i am finding trouble to locate the org for mine. I have some one that can make them, but not sure of which decal set up to use. I remember what it looks like but don't have the hole picture to show him.

    iagmc,

does your 74 have the low or high JEEP stamping?

I have a June 1974 Renegade, color 510, welded floors, no fusebox and the lower stamping, stickers are same as 'early 1975' sticker, with the 'V8" emblem above the JEEP stamping on the stripe. Unfort my hood stripe section is redone due to a hood, um, incident, and I also have to replace the hood sticker portion at least with the lettered ones. I have essentially unlettered ones right now, homemade.

I suspect HIGH stamping/sticker was very early 1974, low stamping/sticker at least well, late June on, with likely intermixing, and I dont know anything about the gold sticker, low stamping which I guess was REALLY late 1974, maybe real late 1974s, possibly billed and sold as 1975 modesl with 1974 dash production dates and perhaps something done to only late yellow ones? Pure speculation on my part.

Well the only thing I have left of the org body is the front tower on the tub. the rest was scrapped. (almost nothing left after rust belt got done with its work) I will take a pic and post what is left.

does anyone have a good indication of the time period between High and low stamping in 1974?
My June 21 or 24th (I forgot) Renegade is LOW stamping.

I just got he paint buffed out, AFTER THIS PIC... next to remove the armour and do slight repair and blend into the original paint to get her back to her beginnings. I want to go back to Whitco top but I vacillate on liking half doors and the modularity of the Bestop. I found the correct rims, still saving cash, although I am considering the 15x8.5 cragars with the turbine inset body matched to keep up the vintage mod look, My spare is one to show signs the original owner ran 31s on the 15x8.5s, I might do 32's on those since 32s on the 15x7 renegade rims appear a little too center rounded.

This is a pic of an early 74. Mine has the upper stamping like this one. Unfortunately I have not found a supplier for this decal. I've resigned myself to using the 73 decal if I have too. The only supplier I know of is at http://www.goldeneagledecals.com/renegade.html where you can see the 73, late 74/early 75, and on up from there. The late model 74 is the red one at the link.

The build date sticker is gone from mine, but my 1974's serial number is 74908 and it has the high stamping. Anyone else want to compare serial numbers so I can get an idea approximately when mine was made?

    Here's a list of some:

    Serial Date

    48120 Feb. 1974
    50385 Feb. 1974
    61110 Apr. 1974
    65166 Apr. 1974
    65179 Apr. 1974
    66307 May. 1974
    80679 Jun. 1974
    91536 Aug. 1974
    94979 Sep. 1974
    95428 Sep. 1974
    07233 Oct. 1974 (1975 model year)

I used to visit ebay on a weekly basis and searched 1974 Jeep CJ so that I could view pictures of the serial/build date sticker to ID my own. I finally got my answer when I found the serials on both sides of my own (65166). So I stopped. But this list is what I gathered over lots of ebay visits.

Looks like your might be late May or early June.

If you have teh original engine, the engine build date will be close to the chassis date.
