I don't know about you guys but I do the "Look Back" (Actually...I'm pretty sure you do too). Today I went to my daughters' volleyball game and did the look back... My Jeep just looked awesome amongst the regular, everyday run of the mill cars.

Did those years come w/o a roll bar? Was it an aftermarket thing?

Was that found covered in dust at the end of the assembly line in Toledo?

From what I have read, 1974 was the first year Jeep offered a roll bar from the factory. Anything older than that was after market only.

Had to re-post these awesome pics that Patrick posted in the off-topic section.

They're way too good to get pruned IMO:

thought I would share some cool pics from an all Willys car show that I went too:

    [IMG][/IMG]

This extended cab is sitting on an all new chevy drivetrain.... with a 454 in it.

    [IMG][/IMG]

there were 3 of these cab forwards there.... all various condition.

    [IMG][/IMG]

this hard top actually came with the jeep...... from JC Pennys!

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

no, this is not a mail jeep, although it is an all original delivery vehicle..... 1961

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

this red and white truck is all original with the original straight six in it.

and then of course, there was mine :) the only Cj5 there.

is that a roll bar from say a chevy truck?
I ask because my 62 does not have a roll bar just a hard top, and I have a roll bar from a 70s swb c10 behind my barn. I was thinking to remove the HT and see if it will fit....

This is my first post here. Great forum. I recently bought a 1966 CJ5 Dauntless V6 with 43k miles. My mechanic buddy has owned it for the last 15 years and it has been sitting in a pole barn for the last 4 or so without being cranked. It hasn't been washed in probably 15 years.

We changed the points, put in a new battery, and it fired right up. New brakes (original drums) and a carb rebuild are underway, along with replacement taillights. I bought a set of Bestop seats but the brackets didn't line up so I returned them and will be putting on a set of cheap ebay Bestop seat covers for the time being until I can source the correct seats. I'm going to remove the CB, stereo speakers, and associated wiring. All of the lights, gauges, and gauge lights work except for the gas gauge which is dead. Everything is original except the transmission was replaced at some point, and the lifted leaf springs and wheels are obviously aftermarket.

In the barn before being touched:

Pulled out of the barn to begin work - You can see the cleaned triangle on the driver's door (armorall) and the fist-sized spot on the hood in front of it (wet rag) to see how it will clean up.

Work underway - Rebuilt starter, brakes, Omix taillights, carb rebuild. Pressure washing coming soon!

Wheels before (left), Brillo'd (right), then spraypainted.

I'm hoping to get it back together and on the road this weekend and see what needs to be done next. :driving:
