tempered or laminate glass for replACEMENT?

 

I used laminated glass on my top. Had them grind smooth the edges.

i am torn as to what to do hard top wise.

i see ads for hard tops that are nicer than mine at good prices
but they are all pretty far away.
denver is a days drive one way for instance.
albuquerque 4 hours one way.
so at best it would take a day and i would have to find a truck to go get it with.

the one i have is just a jiffy cab.
it is not one of the ones with roll up windows etc.
i cant insulate the doors because of the way the windows function.
are koenig doors interchangeable?

should i just suck it up and sink money into nice glass?

 

I do like those windows...
My Koenig was insulated when I got it. rubbed my head on it for years. Stripped out the insulation and worried about the air infiltration instead. Tried all those Home Despot products, they fell off in a few weeks but while they were there it was much better.
Like I said earlier, I'm looking too.

Don't you have one of those killer heaters for that Jeep anyway? Seems like I recall you saying you'd bought a Mojave or something like that.

but i am getting one.

 

im going with cheap plexiglass.

and installing it like the old stuff.
it's about $400 cheaper than a glass pro install.
spend that money on an overdrive.

 

Ive still got the D-18 leak.
it's going to a mechanic this morning.
what would take a guy with a lift and the proper tools a couple hours.
would take me a few days.
I'm sick of monkeying with that T/C.
while i am there there is a noise that i want him to hear.
it only happens when it is rolling under light load.
not when i am really stepping on the gas
and not when my foot is off the gas and am coasting.
it is a kind of a sick whine.

 

i drove it to a buddies house for dinner recently.
he says
i'll paint that top for you just for the heluvit.

so soon it will be ivory just like the wheels.
i think it will look really good with that color scheme.
when i 1st got this rig i decided i didnt want the menacing giant bumper ,huge tire,throaty roar type beast.
i wanted something that i can go get ice cream on a sunday without scaring small children an lil old ladies

 

once i am done replacing the intermediate shaft and front pinion seal

after that everything that needs to be done is going to be expensive.
steering knuckle rebuild and
inner seals front and rear . OUCH! thats gonna be a killer.

 

got the top painted.
i'm gonna put it on tuesday.
we got a perfect match for the wheel paint.
it is a metal building industrial coating .
pretty tough stuff.
it is taking a while to cure.
pics soon.

 

i made an appoinment with my mechanic.
rear seals and front pinion seal are going in.

i dont have the tools/time/place or knowledge to do it myself.
