That is a standard 3 bolt Saginaw 800 box, it is used on all Jeep Cj's Yj's An Tj's from 1972 to present. what kind of upgrades are you interested in? There are several companies that make stronger versions. Need more info.

It's a Saginaw (GM) steering box. Have you looked at the article on this site about the Saginaw conversion? http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/steering/saginaw/saginaw.php The conversion will require welding a new steering bracket to the frame. Advance Adapters sells a bracket http://advanceadapters.com/product/2104/Saginaw-Power-Steering-Box-Mounting-Plate-for-Jeep.html but you will need more than just the bracket to make it work.

There is also this thread http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17911 with nothing of pictures and discussion of the Saginaw power steering conversion.

CAUTION!!! From the photo you supplied, I have a real concern about the safety of your existing steering linkage. There is a homemade bracket that appears to be keeping the pivot shaft in place. The bracket is welded to the frame and to some all thread. If that homemade bracket fails, and the pivot shaft falls out, you will lose all steering.

It's possible this bracket was added to minimize slop in the steering linkage (and isn't holding the shaft in place), but make sure you understand why it's there.

You are definately doing the right thing by upgrading your steering!!! The saginaw steering conversion may seem expensive, but it's worth every cent.

I just got the Saginaw box, I have now to install it instead off the stock mounting.
Regarding my modification, it was made to get the axis more strong, it's 4 year old it never breaks!

Hi from Greece. I did the same conversion a few years ago with manual. i used the drawings from the tech section and it went perfect.
but i had an issue. i couldn't find cheap parts to rebuild the manual box and it was a little loose for power steering they asked for 300 euro.
so i convert it again from mercedes power steering box from 124 series for 120euro.
the mount is identical to saginaw.
you can find tons of them in france as in greece, and a lot cheaper.
the steering now is just perfect and it is mercedes.
i can supply with more info and photos if you want
