I agree with the buy it for 75 bucks and get it home, once home you have all the time in the world to think about it. I have a $75 455 in my garage that was going to go in my CJ5, not much risk, I know I can get my $ out of it if I just sell it later.......

To Me it is a no brainer. Get the 350 and install it. If you have that need for a V8 rumble there is nothing that will cure it otherwise. It is an easy swap. Motor mounts are the same and flywheel should work as well as the Buicks are internally balanced as far as I can remember. Aluminum intake with a four barrel will be hardly noticeable for weight. You could also stab a cam in it and it would really rock. For $75 you can't go wrong even if you don't get around to installing it. Go for it, V8s are just plain badass.

Not sure on the hp numbers, but my chiltons manual from 1980 lists the 1978 2 barrel 350 as only having 160 hp. A later 90s Chev 4.3 weighs in at 190, and it is almost 200 lbs lighter. Just 2 cents

I have both engines and have driven both engines. My buick engine is stock with a newer rebuilt. It has a stock buick GT four barrel intake and quadrajet. It is a torque monster, and pushes my M truck with authority. I really like it. I also have a very built 225 that is a torque monster. I would say if your going with big tires and big axles run the 350. If your staying close to stock the 225 would get the nod. Both are sweet engines IMHO.

I agree that the mounts are the same - just something in the back of my mind telling me that they are in a different place on the frame for the longer engine.

'Course it could just be the 'voices' comming back :)

I would just get the engine - measure and go with your gut. We are putting a 360 in the '72 Commando and really like the V8s in the 'fuller' size riggs.

Talk to a good machine shop about balancing the 225 flywheel to the 350. If they know what their doing they can use the auto flexplate to do this or you'll need to take them the crank for the balance. The heavy 225 flywheel is great for crawling, I ran one on my even fire 231.

trick, you need to talk to "mrfastbucks" on the jeepstercommandoclub forum. He's running that setup in his yellow jeepster and after riding in the thing, I wouldn't waste my time with a 350.

Wow didnt think this thread would keep going.:)

The 350 didnt pan out, just to shot.

So for now will run the 225 and make a longer term plan.

I think what holds me back most is all the extra mods needed like a bigger rad.

If the 225 performs as advertised then I will just do a top end on it next winter..

Thanks for all the input
