Engine & T14 togeather & in frame. Output gear already installed on trans. Can I install the tranfer case with the transmission output gear intalled. Or should I remove the gear & reinstall after I bolt up the transfer case. FSM say's to remove the gear but from my search's I think that those instructions only apply to the small hole T-case. Just want to be sure before I try to bolt up the T-case. Thanks in advance

dont know if you have to on the big hole case, but looks to me installing it after the transfercase is mated to the transmission would be easier,(dont have to mesh the gears while trying to line everything else up)

I've done it either way with a large hole Spicer 18 and Dana 20. It's easier with the gear off 'cause the t-case will plunk right on straight. Less chance of messing up your RTV bead and getting a leaker.

Just make sure the t-case is in Neutral so the outputs can spin as the gears mesh. That'll still allow the case to go on straight, more or less.
