    Hey guys!

Ok I went to my hometown junk yard the other day and then went back today.Heres what I came up with..

First off I'm setting my second cj up for street and serious capability offroad hill climbing(rock)..
At the local yard there were many trucks but not many good novak numbers to verify so I was there for two days and finally got the "pot boiling"..
I found 2 sm465 trannies 1 is still in a 1976 c30 holmes wrecker(tranny#6273212) the other sm465 is out in a old vacant storage bus it too has the 6273212 tranny number;this second sm465 has a switch on the top I assume its the rear brake light switch?
So just to be certain are these numbers and trannys sm465 tranny's per say?
The second one has the clutch sytem on it and it moves in and out nicely..
The one in the 76 c30 wrecker is "OLD" too.
The one in the wrecker is 2wd truck but its a wrecker and the tranny has a shaft driven chelsea pto adapter on it.
The sm465 thats in the junk bus has a 10 spline shaft I don't know what length really cause I did not know where to really measure it and anyway if I ha dto change it out then I guess I would
Don't know what spline the shaft is in the 76 c30 wrecker...

Ok so here's the other possibility :I found a T19 4 SPEED REVERSE TO THE RIGHT AND DOWN.It is in a old F600 white school bus ;The T19 read stamped markings"T19".
From what I understand from novaks T19 writeup is that there were 3 versions and old F500 THRU F700 Fords all had the 6.32 tranny but I'll definitly wanna open it top up if I choose to grab that tranny just to count the teeth so I have read thats the only true way to be sure...

So Guys I want a granny 1st gear obviously but I really need help in understanding and choosing the best one out of these three..
Will a sm465 fit without cutting into/modifying the floor section of my cj ?
Will a T19 fit without cutting up my floor?
I take it that some trimming for the shifter placement movement is a must but I would really sway from chopping my floors if neither tranny would drop in without fab work..

One other find at the junk yard is that wrecker is a 2wd dually and I was thinking maybe that rear dually 14 bolt corporate GM axle could fit under my rear cj7 without to much of a fuss?Who's been there done that or has knowledge of that swap?
I read on google of 1 fellow doing the swap but his writeup was too vague as it did not have the ole saying one size fits all in wrecker axles.
I took some ruff tape measurements here they are what can you tell me about these measurements working or not.

    1976 C30 dually 2wd
37 1/2inches inside to inside between the perches of the dually axle.
40'' From the Center spring Perch Block on the left to the Center Perch Block on the Right
Now this next measurement is not at all exact but generally close to the measurement
48''from brake drum mount to brake drum mount measuring around the 14bolt carrier
70 1/2''axle end to axle end

I was going to measure my cj7 tonight when I got back but it got dark before I could and besides getting valid responses back on here with yaw would be much better than getting it from my measuring tape thoughts..
If this 14bolt FF axle would fit then could'nt I just take a cj rear 60 axle and put it on the front as long as both axles have been prepped and matched diff to diff same gear ratio??
Any thoughts ,advice ,hard words would be very much appreciated as I trust what most all of you say on here yaw seem to know your stuff and not give wrong information.
In other words I think you guys Rock!
    Thanks Guys!

I measured my cj7 and it looks like the dually 14 bolt is around 2'' -3''wider using all the rear axle/spring perch measurements.

2'' to 3 inch wider 14 bolt GM dually axle ; itseems to be a good canidate for a rear stronger rear axle swap.

    Read up, Grasshopper: http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/brandpages/chevy/131_0208_sm465_transmission_rebuild/index.html

Steer clear if it's got the 1-1/2 input shaft. I'd opt for the 10-spline output shaft just 'cause it's easier to find adapters for.

Double check that axle. For '76 there's a pretty good chance it's a Dana 70 and no a 14-bolt. I'd steer clear of the dualie axle and would just look for a 14-bolt from a pickup truck. Narrower WMS-WMS than the van one.

    Again, here ya go: http://www.jpmagazine.com/projectbuild/154_0603_1948_willys_pickup_part_3/index.html

I thought it was a 14bolt gm cause it has 14 bolts and its a gm and it was shaped like a 14 bolt gm..
I'LL have to look at a dana 70,I can't remember how many bolts they have holding the diff cover and the shape I don't recollect either cause I can't remember to good cause I read alot and I forget alot.
I read of guys using dana 70's on cj's too.
I seem to think they said they have better ground clearance and you can cut the tubes down wheras I've read that 14 bolt GM you cannot cut/narrow those axles.

That tranny writeup was really simple to understand almost a shadetree rebuild cause they give you a step by step of what to do to make a sm465 better than ever..

Thanks for the links and advise.
If your a "dummy" then I'm a "dummy two".:)
