So I was taking the exhaust manifold off to put headers on...and...well...i got 11 of 12 bolts off no problem... The last has its head stripped pretty badly. I was thinking about using a dremel and cutting the head off so that I could pull the manifold off, and then trying to use vice grips on the rest of the bolt that is sticking out to try and get it out. Does this sound like a good plan, or do you guys have a better suggestion?

I have also had good luck welding a larger nut on the striped head so that you get good weld contact - then pulling it with approprate socket. It also has the added benifit of heating the area to help loosen things.

Bolt-Out. Works great on manifold bolts and studs.

i would cut it, pull manifold, use heat, and pull with vise grips.

use the craftsman bolt out thingie. I've had good success with that. If that does nto work, then cut it off. First soak it in pb blaster for a few days.

You could also use 2 car batteries, 2 sets of jumper cables, and some 7018 rod to zap a bolt head on there. The heat from the welding will help free it up. Lowes should have the rod and some cheap welding goggles.

Just a thought if it comes down to welding.

hehe, I love the redneck engineering Dummy! Fits my truck right now... Tried to buy a set of the Craftsmen bolt outs last night...but I made the mistake of going to a ghetto mall Sears (seriously...) and the last set of them that had the size I needed that wasn't a $60 impact socket set was stolen... going to try and go to another today...

A stud remover could work too if the right size and you have the clearance.
