Hey guys, I have seen that some people have used Fiero radiators on the CJ5 with the dauntless :v6:, and that seems like the direction I am going to have to go...I just wondered how well they did cooling the engine under high load/low speed situations (aka off roading). They are just a single row radiator, so it would seem that they may not have enough cool capability... I have seen people say "yeah, I've got one, here are some pictures:" and the like, but no one (that I have seen in quite a bit of searching) has said "yeah, I've done some pretty heavy offroading in 90 degree weather with a fiero radiator, and my Jeep stayed nice and cool" Just wondering...thanks guys!

Alright. I've done some pretty heavy offroading in 90 degree weather with a fiero radiator, and my Jeep stayed nice and cool. Honestly. I ran the factory fixed blade fan with no shroud. It was a few inches from the radiator.

I have an early cj5 radiator and v-6 it has worked well in 90 degree days off roading. But in my cj2a it is just a little too tall, the pinch weld on the hood had to be folded over to clear the cap.

I never said it was in a early cj5.
The comment about the pinch weld refers to a flatty hood. I have a cj2a listed as one of my Jeeps.

Oh, I thought this thread was about a Fiero radiator in an ECJ5. Sorry for the confusion.

I was just saying an early cj5 radiator will cool a v-6 down in 90 degree days while off roading. I have that combo (v-6, early cj5 rad) and it works well for me. While typing I remembered the pinch weld issue and mentioned it. You had questioned me so quickly after my first post that I never got the chance to re-read what I had written and make the appropriate edits to clear up any confusion. I have since edited my first post, now hopefully it is more clear.

soo...just got a response from an ad I posted on Willystech... Guy has a CJ5 V6 radiator he says he'll sell to me for $75... Says it is in good condition, but that it will need to be tested. Now, currently I do not have a crank fan as the PO put an electric on it, how much room do you think I would have between the pulleys on the front of the engine and the stock radiator? I'm torn about which of these four options to take: A) buy (unknown condition) original radiator for $75 +shipping and not be sure that my electric fan will work, so might have to find either a lower profile electric fan or crankfan, and it could end up needing recored.. B) buy a used Fiero radiator off of ebay for $40 inc shipping, which should be small enough to allow me to have room to use my electric fan, and it is from a seller with a good rating, and they say it has been tested and in good condition. C) buy a NEW Fiero radiator from Advance Auto or the like for ~$150 D) buy an aftermarket aluminum radiator from Jegs/Summit that might require some finagling to get to fit since it is 19" tall for $169 +shipping

What do you guys think??? I am leaning towards the used Fiero radiator, since at most I'll be out $40 if it doesn't work...

How much does Advanced Auto want for a new early cj5 radiator or a Chevy v8 monza radiator?

they don't sell early cj5 radiators (no one does but 4wd.com, and they are $450 and i've heard that their quality is suspect) and the chevy monza v8 radiator is $220 if i remember correctly.

edit: Actually, i just looked, and they don't even sell a radiator for a V8 Monza at Advance.

Hey Wheelin69, I purchased a Fiero radiator for my 1970 cj5 (225). And have never used it. If you are interested $70 + actual shipping. Send me your email an I can drop you a couple of pictures. I think I paid around $125 for it. Curtis

before i had my radiator recored i thought about using the mustang radiator. it looked like the lower hose from a late 70's chevy pickup with a 350 would work if you reverse direction. the diameter of the hose ends looked right. i not sure if it will clear the oil filter though.
