Thinking of nabbing a Jeepster I know of for sale next week. It's a '68 with the original 225/14/20 drivetrain. Sort of hammered and hasn't run in a few years.

Anybody care to talk me in/out of it. I'm sort of on the fence.

hello? If you are coming here for advice on whether to buy a jeep, you must want it! Because I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be around here. :)

Yeah, same as my old CJ-6. I guess I need the cheering section to get me a little more motivated since it's a 450-mile drive to get it.

    They're cool!
    They're different!
    Ya know you want it!
It would be great to use as your DD this summer while the weather's fine here in So Cal!
And if you don't act now someone else will snag it up! (just like that free 'un in OC!)

i do have to say when i had my bullnose, it drove like a caddy. it really was a comfortable drive. my wife didnt like it much because the seats made it feel like a car isntead of a jeep.

One of the last really cool different jeeps to be had.

Different is cool the older you get the cooler they are and believe me, later ,that is one you will wish you didnt let slip away.
Wheelbase is right and alittle more room is great.

A few mods and it is a stout jeep mine is a 69 and it has a boxed frame.
225 need I say more on that? dual exuagst.. mmm.
    I am putting in a sm420 and 33's with 3.73's.
Front BDS springs WT dana 30 and D 44 rear spring over.

not complicated just good ride, fun jeep, lots of stares if you like that.8)

You get a Jeepster and you'll finally forget about Hatari! Excellent wheelbase and you'll feel like you're driving a triumph spitfire on 35's.

If that doesn't work how about I promise to renew my subscription. :)

Maybe a pic from last weekends Jam?

    There we go, guys. Thanks.

Welp, going shooting tomorrow. Should be a cozy 110 or higher out near 29 Palms, but I gotta blow some stuff up.

Then early next week I have to finish up the issue of Jp we're working on. Middle of the week I need to put the finishes on the Fall '08 issue of 4x4 Garage (I'm Editor of that again).

Maybe I'll go nab it Thurs. or Fri if he's still got it. Hasn't run in 4 years. I think I'll make it interesting. I'll get Cappa to drive me up there. No trailer. I bet it'll drive the 450-miles back down to San Diego. I'll bring the camera.

How about a article on the retrieval? Those were some of the best reading article and the ones that made me laugh the hardest. I still quote Cappa or was it you about the women in the state of Oregon from the Duce and a half one.

A reocurring artical on a Jeepster build would be cool.
    Retro old school of course.
I would be checking the mailbox every day:rofl:

If I buy it then, yes to both - there'sd be a story or two on the retrieval and it'd be a project buildup like Hatari, etc.

And I was way wrong about the temp out at 29 Palms yesterday. Mid 120s. Still fun, though.

Commandos are way cool- and the stare factor is really high- when I drive my CJ, I get lots of looks from jeepers and lazy thumbs up, but in the commando I get long stares from non jeepers, and enthuisiastic thumbs up and "goats" from all jeepers. Hell yes(!!!!!!!!) drive over and get it- you won't be sorry.

My son is out at 29 Palms doing his desert training. He called me from Camp Pendleton the other day and said they were out training and came across some old Willys. If you come across a young Marine talking about his different Jeeps that will be Jr! Oh, yeah I vote that you get it too. I'm going to have to resubscribe as JP isn't on the shelves here in Vermont...

Talk you out of it?? Not a chance :). You do realize you can't have just one, right? You will need at the very least one more for parts and they do kind of grow on you to the point where you almost need to have one of every configuration they made and then you need even more partsters to keep those going, then before you know it you have to build another shop to strip those partsters out in and have a place to store all those spare parts and then one day your out there looking at all your junk and thinking about what to do next and your head explodes cause you got all this crap piling up and no time to work on it all  . Or maybe that's just me :), I say go for it .

What's funny is the way the wife relates to the jeep- first one that I dragged home was a look of disdain, contempt even. Her tone was was along the lines of "what is THAT?".

Well, yesterday it looked like it was going to rain, so she was all upset because "her" commando was sitting in the driveway uncovered, and I couldn't get the carb working right as the float (or needle valve) is stuck in the carb and flooding out the engine. I said to her that it had been rained on before, so what? You would have thought I was suggesting leaving the grandkids out in the rain.
