No, the last 3-speed was in 1979.

It's definitely not a '74 - it is a '76 or later. You can tell from the rear axle (an AMC Corporate 20), the frame, the spring widths, and the transmission crossmember.

It appears to have front disc brakes. I'm betting a 78 or 79. Disc's were an option 76 and 77 so it might be one of those. My 76+ has drums. Last year you could get drums on the front was in 77. I assume the 3 speed is a T-150, a good strong tranny. Trans is a D20. AMC 20 rear, Dana 30 front. I'd also bet gears are 3.54. As long as you run nothing larget than 33's and don't romp on the gas, you should be fine. AMC can be upgraded to a bit stronger than a D44 with a one piece axle kit. Weakest part is the front D30.

But all in all, a good jeep, even with a screwy vin plate.

FWIW, your jeep could be my jeeps twin. Exactly the same situation, same parts, same vin year, same frame, tranny, etc.

My 74 CJ5 only had 3 lights. you might try using a light sandpaper and a flashlight to view the originals.
