It's been a busy month... I've replaced all the interior sheet metal and decided to have it powder coated instead of paint. Then decided while the tub is off, I should rebuild the tranny and Tcase. I should have it back on the road by next week. Here's a couple pics.

In an accident are slivers of glass going to be flying? Knowing ceramics and enameling that might be something to be concerned about. But it does look nice.

Thanks. The powder coater didn't send me any pics of the tub...He said it had a light spot and had to fix it. When he sends me the pic, I'll post it.

    :?

Powdercoating is neither enamel nor ceramic. It's electrostatically-charged paint that is applied in powder form and then baked dry. Once dry it's not much different than liquid-applied paint.

I wanna know how much that costs, vs. painting. Of course, your sheet metal has to be perfect, or the powdercoating will show every little flaw. Can't use bondo or fiberglass because of the temperature involved. I also wonder about surface prep and rustproofing, etc. I'm really curious how feasible it is to p/c a tub or car body. I know it can be done, but I don't know how well it turns out or holds up. What do they do about hidden rust in the seams, for example?

Definitely going to be waiting for more info on this one! [IMG]

Here's a pic of the tub. As for the body work, you can buy body filler that is powder coat safe (lab metal or metal 2 metal). I didn't look into what it would cost for paint but to have it powder coated was $800.

That's a heck of a good price. I can't imagine you'd be able to find a decent painter to spray it for cheaper than that and have it look anywhere half as nice. PC would be a great option for an aluminum tub. I have dreams of an aluminum tub on Project Tetanus someday when I save up my pennies and afford to plop down $2500 for the tub. I hate the bare aluminum look and painting aluminum has issues, so PC would be an interesting option.
