Sammy the PS pitman I have is a differant hole size ( at the steering box) than your manual box...least wise that's what I've read here. Your welcome to it if you find that to be incorrect.
Good job on your flatty, it's coming along nicely :)

when I was putting the finishing touches on the 6 before returning to DD duties there were a few things left behind. One of those things was the speedometer, I had been sent the wrong pulse generator for the D18 so it didn't get replaced until after the Jeep was on the road again. It's been sitting on my bench this whole time so today I hooked everything up. First thing was attaching the pulse generator to the TC
    [IMG]
then hooking up the two wires that run to the speedo. I followed the path that the cable had run, just attaching in 3 or 4 places to keep it away from moving parts and the exhaust
    [IMG]
After it was hooked up I had my wife pace me at 55mph, I noted where my speedo read then followed their book to set the dip switches on the back of the gauge.....I now have a working speedometer!:)

when the motor is cold, and the rpm's high(think I was in 3rd gear for the pic)....yea that's what it registers. It's a mechanical gauge and when hot at 600rpm it'll drop to 20lbs

so I started the rear tank install saturday. Got the old tank out and pulled the bumper. The bumper/recovery points slide inside the frame rails and are bolted w/ 5/8" grade 8 bolts/nuts. I wanted to be able to pull the bumper w/o pulling the tank so I welded the nuts to the recovery straps. I figured the tank install would be a slam dunk but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO it's never that easy. I'm gonna need to put a stock style rear crossmember back on to get the drop necessary to get the skid plate bolted up.

looking forward to having 26 gallon capacity..........gonna build the spare tire carrier as part of this overall project.

    thinking out loud..
could you not weld a piece of angle iron between the frame to mount the tank skid to only ?

that was the plan but when I put the tank/skid in place the snubber on the tank hits the tub way before it gets that far up....looks like I need 4+" down from top of frame for it to work. I posted a question in the 5 forum asking for stock crossmember dimensions , can't remember what it was

it was cheaper to get a 3/16" 4"x 1 5/8"channel than to have something lighter bent up so thats what I used for a rear crossmember. Cut to size w/ the tank in place for mock up
    [IMG]
I followed Mike Boyinks example and welded nuts on the back side of the channel so tank install will be much easier
    [IMG]
Here it's installed w/ body mounts in place and all holes for the tank ready, also holes cut so the bumper/recovery straps can be slid in and bolted up later
    [IMG]
just a simple 6 hour project after work:rofl::).........tank will go in tomorrow

so after sorting out my sender unit problem (from the thread in early cj5 tech) I was able to mount up the tank
    [IMG]
I also got the filler mounted....both fillers on the same side will be nice
    [IMG]
the hose for the fill and the vent was $47 .....just need to cut and install them, and hook up ground and sending wires..."fingers crossed it all works"
Onto the spare tire carrier tomorrow

so I got a pretty good start on the spare tire carrier. The bottom channel is 3/16" 2"x3"....the rest 1/8" 2"x2" except the reciever which will allow adjustable spacing, it's 3/16"
The spindle came from a-z fab (thanks bkap) and I've got all the material together that I'll need to complete
    [IMG]
think I may need a new JP decal after getting the spindle welded in :)....
I have a heavy duty draw latch that I'll use for closure, and I plan to make a stay open keeper as well....gonna use some 1/4" rubber pieces as snubbers where it latches to try and eliminate any rattles.

Jim, I think you should make another tire carrier. You could learn from your mistakes and bring me your first one.R)

    Looks great...

got most of the welding done on the spare tire carrier project. Just need to cut /weld the plate the tire hangs on, and a few misc. xtra's...paint and done
getting the bumper ready for the reciever hitch
    [IMG]
the plate the saftey chain will attach to
    [IMG]
this little plate around the hinge is part of the stay open mechanism
    [IMG]
hopefully when it cools down a bit (90+ degrees now) I'll finish a few things and start painting
