I repainted mine in a dupont color called Hamstead Green and I think it's very very close.

I'll try to post a pic.

    Matt,

POR-15 makes a Buick engine paint that looks correct. There a lot of online places that sell it.

I have painted 4 engines with regular automotive body enamel. It gives you a much better finish than rattle cans and it is resistant to enough heat that if you do get the engine hot enough you have other things to worry about than blackened paint.

I beleive Jeep used the Buick Blue through 1971 even though Buick had switched to red in 1967.

Baby John tried to post a pic of his engine - I copied this from his web site - hope you don't mind John.

This looks really close to what I remember as the stock color. Maybe a little too much silver (ie more blue-green, less silver) but the hue is really close.

I also used Detroit Diesel Alpine Green on my old 225 race motor.
Brad doesn't realize it but that was the color of the dipstick tube I sent him a while back and he couldn't tell it from the original 225 color :D . Sorry Brad, but had to throw it out there. :stout: Nickmil.

Nick, I was wondering about that. That tube was waaay too clean and shiney. I prefer that color to Baby John's simply because it has a more industrial look and less silver-ish tone.

Don't get me wrong John, your engine looks SWEET!!

I use Detroit Diesel Alpine Green too. It's just easier to get around town and it is a nice looking green. When it comes time to rebuild the ol' 225, I'll put a nice coat of DD Green on it. :D
