The longer this goes on, the "stupider" the fix will be -- one of those "you've got to be kiddin" kinda things. ;)

I'm thinkin fuel still. rig up a small gas can and take fuel from that (alot of bungees and duct tape). Work from there to the fuel pump.

I've done that already. Jim had to remind me that I did. R)

I remember you said you did retard it some and it seemed to help? I meant more than that. Can't hurt anything.

I went from 10* before to 5* after from what I read in the thread yesterday. That seemed to make it better in that it didn't do it in 2cnd gear. So I backed it up more. That didn't seem to make a difference. So I put it back to 5* before and it didn't make a difference then either. :?

I've got it timed exactly where it was before the cam replacement but now the symptoms appear at a different speed/RPM range than before the replacement.

    Can't hurt to try though.

Sparky, having looked at the carb pics....... gave me an idea
could you post some shots of the engine
    left side
    right side
up above, looking down as if you were standing onn the bumper
don't have to be up close like the carb shots

I think Sparky's just testing the knowledge of the group.

Here you go. Yeah, the carb is backwards, I just set it on there last nite. Was tired of fiddling with it. R)

Sparky pull the fuel filter off and run it once.
Never much liked those small filters anyway. It may be running out of fuel.

Cool. I just never had any luck with that style.
Look for a clear plastic filter OEM type.

10-4, with my luck that'll be the problem. R)

Ah well, the passenger side runs better now, so the cam did fix something.

Re: V6 Cutting out at cruising speeds?

the "other' carb picture showed a long length of tubing coming from the carb fitting down to the fuel filter; in the photo I was curious as to whether you slid just the end of the tubing in the rubber hose far enough to just clamp, or whether you might have been sliding in say 4" of the tubing, to where it would meet the fuel filter nipple; I realize that wasn't your carb; but, if that's your fuel line, I was going to suggest that you only slip the line into the rubber hose far enough to clamp, and to make sure that you weren't going as far as I described, which could cause a fuel restriction.
Like Jerry, I don't like that style of filter either......ymmv

Re: V6 Cutting out at cruising speeds?

all the HEI installs I have seen, show the vac advance up much higher (9o'clock position) rather than yours which is in the 6 o'clock position.
I realize they say you can change that position and move it around, then reposition the wires.....wonder if that could be the problem
    just thinking out loud.........

Re: V6 Cutting out at cruising speeds?

Hmm, I use that style filter (glass tube, plastic element?) and like it. Am I wrong?

Re: V6 Cutting out at cruising speeds?

You can, but you have to move the wires 2 terminals at a time...

    was thinking the same thing.

Saw you jeep has power disks. Any chance they are hanging up any? drive it around for a while at 50-60mph. Don't really need to bog it down, just time to let the brakes really warm up. If they are really really hot, might be too much pressure on them??
