I got to thinking today. Well i was going to get a plasma cutter as soon as i can save a bit of money. But then got to thinking, i have a torch set and can do alot of cutting, but the gas does run out eventually. I currently have a small 110 MIG and a Hobart Stickmate Stick welder. They do work for me just fine, but for some reason i am kind of thinknig just to get a Miller Millermatic 175. It is a bit cheaper than the plasma cutter, by about $300. This will make it a bit easier for me to get to out of the way places compared to using a stick welder. I could sell off the other welders and and the new welder wont be that much after it is all said and done. But then again i would kind of think i am running away from the Stick welder which has worked just fine for me for 2 years. But welding a cage with a stick welder really sucks.

So what would you guys say, get the plasma cutter, or get the bigger MIG?

Plasma cutter's nice, no doubt, but you can duplicate the results with a torch and some grinding. I'd go with the welder, only because you can't duplicate the results you'd get with your current tools.

Welder. The plasma cutter is one of those tools like a tubing bender, You have it it is nice but you really don't need it.

Buy the welder 8) , but keep the stick welder for heavier plate and pipe welding. (Know what you mean about cage welding with stick  )

Welder any day. It's only infrequently I bust out the plasma. I use the welder all the time.
