Hey Boyink and anybody else running a soft top on their CJ-6. I was wondering if you could take measurements of the top bows from the floor and windshield (so I can get the distance on 2 planes). I'm wondering if the bows will fit with the cage I built or if the cage itself can be used to attach the top.

    Here's what I built:

Front bar (windshield): 47-3/8 from floor to top of tube - 2-3/8 to tube centerline from windshield
Middle Bar (B-pillar): 46-1/8 from floor to top of tube - 38-1/4 from windshield to tube centerline
Rear Bar (measured at beginning of bend - bar running alongside body tub): 34-1/4 fron wheelwell to top of tube - 63 from windshield to beginning of bend
Rear Bar (measured at kick back - bar running alongside tailgate): 42-1/2 from floor to top of tube - 74 to tube centerline from windshield

I'm getting some interested buyers for my CJ-6 but the universal question from each is "will a soft top fit?" Apparently others don't share my general disregard for comfort, warmth, and good health.

OK - I let you down on this before...

My top is currently all off and in the basement, but if you can hang on I'll have time tomorrow to quick mount the bows and get some measurements.

Keep in mind there are two softop options - Bestop and Specialty tops. I haven't verified it yet, but by eye it the Bestop looks a bit higher in the center.

Worth has the Specialty tops version on 615 - maybe he can grab the same measurements for comparison.

Yeah, I forgot. So if it doesn't fit it's all your fault! R)

Hope you know I'm just kidding. Thanks a whole bunch. I really appreciate it.

Aren't you in Michingan? Isn't it winter? What's your top doing off? You must have one heck of a heater.

    Yes and yes...6" expected today...;)

SSDutch is off the road for steering relocation / new dash / heater install / brake work / fuel injection installation. I pulled the top, windshield and hood off for easy access to everything. Work didn't slow down over the holidays as expected so I'm behind on garage projects....

    OK -

Got some numbers for you. My w/s is off, so for front to back measurements I used the dash.

I have a bunch of pics of the fitment of the top on this page.

Front (w/s) hoop I figure you'd be able to eyeball top fitment - the only issue I have there is if you look right above the doors my cage is pushing the top out a bit - not enough to affect anything, just makes it a tight fit. The cage is ~54" wide at that point.

    B Hoop:
I have 47" to the top of the cage, with ~48" to the bottom side of the soft top bow. There's a pic on that page that shows how tight the fit is in this area.

The B hoop centerline is ~ 48 5/8 from the dash.

One thing to note is that the softtop bows have a peak to them, so at the outsides there is ~ 46 1/4" from the floor to the bottom side of the softop bow.

    Rear Bar:
I have ~43" to the top of the rollcage.
~73.5" from the dash to the centerline of the bar.

~42" from the floor to the top of softop bow.

It's strange -- looking at the pics of your cage I thought it was a fair amount longer, but by the numbers your rear bar looks approximately in the same spot - unless you were measuring from the top of the w/s in which case the cage is a bit longer. I don't think this would affect top fitment.

One limitation your buyer might find is that, while dropping the top the front soft top bow won't clear the rear of the rollcage as it lowers to the body. No biggie - they'd just have to pull the pivot pins.

I'll leave the bows on the Jeep in case you need any more measurements.

Hey, Mike. Can't thank you engough. I owe you one.

Yes, I was measuring from the top of the windshield frame, so my cage is a bit longer than yours. I already let everyone know about the top bows not folding down.

My biggest concern was the middle "B" pillar hoop height. Looks like yours may be a little taller, though, so there shouldn't be any problem. I also built my cage 51-1/2 wide, so it shouldn't push.

Yep - I had the builder push that hoop as high as he could -- higher than he wanted to even -- for maximum headroom.

Good luck on the sale...I think membership here should be a requirement for the buyer...;)
