i found a warn 8274 for sale for $400 and wanted to get some input before i make a decision. it looks ok, but well used. while reading some older posts i noticed that some think that it is a bit heavy for our early cjs. also noticed that mounting an 8274 can be a challenge which worries me since i have minimal fabrication skills and i also have the power steering box in the way.

the one i really want is the 8000i since it is so compact, but still pretty dang strong.

    any thoughts?

    thanks, chris

Looks like it comes with the mounting plate. Good deal as long as its functional.

i think he is selling the plate seperately, but might be able to get it included in the deal.

It is a good deal, but I prefer the lower profile of the M8000 and such on a Jeep.....

yeah, I am torn between the M8000 and the 8274. I just cannot make up my mind on them.

Had one on my CJ many years. Great winch. Get the mounting plate with it.

if functional, good deal for $400
pay someone some $$ to make an offset mount to clear your steering
    still $$ ahead

I would get it for sure. They are narrower than the average winch, so it will fit down between the front frame rails even with the power steering box there. I could be wrong, but I think the M8000 is too wide to do that.

Thats a good price for it.
I've been pulled out of two very bad stucks by 8274's. They work very well. ;)

Chris I'm going to be realistic here, that is a good price for the winch and yes they are a goooood winch, but do you wheel enough to justify the money its gonna cost. I thought about a winch a few years back but to tell you the truth I don't wheel more than 5-6 times a year and for me it would be a big waste of money. You may be different I don't know but for the vast majority of the guys on this board it will sit on the front of there jeep and weigh it down, collapse there springs and collect dust.:) If you really think you need and will use this winch and can afford to mount it, run dual batteries and a heavier alternator like you should, I say go for it!!!

i go wheeling at least every other week if not more often when the jeep is running. a winch is essential equipment here in colorado, definately during the winter.
