No need for apology, I just didn't want to start a war between 2 of our most experienced members! Different strokes & all that.
As far as adapting the JC springs to the CJ, even that is beyond my capability at the moment, I'm going to be going in for hip surgery soon & I'm somewhat limited in my mobility. But, the initial measurements I took on the Commando springs were the same as a CJ spring from shackle to axle on the front. The distance from fixed end to axle on the rear is the same as the CJ rear from shackle to axle. So in essence, I'd be doing what Holbrook did, using longer springs with an offset center pin, and just relocating the fixed end. I think I could handle that, if I get healthy.
The idea of cutting everything off the frame & trying to locate it from scratch scares the hell out of me, I think that's beyond what I want to tackle.

Edit; when I started this thread, I was under the assumption that it was necessary to extend the frame to install the YJ springs. Some further research shows that's not really the case, but there's still the issue of getting everything placed properly & shackle angles correct.
I'm a pretty good mechanic (parts changer). Fabricator, not so much.

A YJ spring swap is my list to do on my ‘75. When it happens I’ll keep track of my numbers. (y)

That line made me laugh... quietly to myself.
I drew up my Saginaw swap on the PC had a location all modeled up. Then I solidly welded it in the wrong spot. took a while to weld grind repeat then didn't work right.

    I'm a pretty good draftsman.
    Fabricator, not so much.

Doug - since it sounds like your going under the knife for your hip like I did, we should revisit this next fall. By then I should be done with the '63 and it will be next door and could help you do the suspension changes you want. I should also have the lathe and mill ready for any 'special' items.

The fab work is the fun for me and what I'm looking forward to doing more of as I pull back from work (and why I bought the mill and lathe).

I appreciate that! I'll likely take you up on that.
As for the hip, it's a work related injury, so the "wheels of progress" are turning VERY slowly :steamed:
I'm really hoping it gets done & I have time to heal up before next summer.

I'm still in the parts gathering phase of my CJ5 project, one thing I remember reading about was someone made up new mounts and put longer rear leafs on the front. I am not really looking for much more height but since my 63's spring packs are all messed up from rust between the leaves and need replacing anyway I have no problem fabbing up new mounts especially if I can get a little bit better of a ride out of it.
