    I just picked up this winch today. Looking for input on how best to mount this new to me 8274? Would like the fairlead to come out in the bumper to keep it low. The bumper is new and 2x3x 3/16

    Check out Julius sunken 8274....I'd copy the dimensions from TMR or Barnes off road mounting plates for the 8274 and make your own. You don't really need the bottom - its an 'upright' winch and the 'feet' mount forward on a vertical plate that you will weld to the backside of your bumper (offset to the passenger side to clear the saggy box)....having the line go through the bumper (which you will have to open a pathway and put a fairlead on the outside), certainly complicates things a bit....

    so just to really take you off-topic, check out metcalf's 8274 mount here

    he actually mounts the fairlead under the bumper and the bottom of the mount acts like a skid.....he also shows a picture with the motor winding reversed such that the wire pulls in from the top above the bumper although the winch is sunken (I think this is really cool)...

    Motor winding reversed sounds like a good trick. Can I just wind it up backwards and push the out button to come in?

    Maybe, but I venture an uneducated guess that you might be able to switch the wire leads from the controller to the solenoid and then you won't have to operate your controller backwards.....but not 100% sure if the motor needs to be turning a specific direction for full power, or if its bi-directional. I know they have power in and out, just not sure if its equivalent in both directions...

    Additional info on this "reversing the spool direction"
    I contacted Metcalf and he says - the Warn 8274 winch has a braking system that only functions fully in the stock direction. An old Bellview winch can indeed be outfitted with a Bi-directional motor and function well in either direction.

    Im looking at this mount and think I'll cut it / weld it into the bumper somehow so that the Fairlead does come out thru the bumper instead of above (maybe).

    wasn't hard, just took a bit of time.I used tube cut in 1/2, and then flat pieces in-between. weld the insides, then slide it in and weld the outsides. Or just weld the outsides and smear some JB-weld on the inside seams to seal them from water.

    I later ground the welds smooth, and I don't even run a fairlead, just the synthetic line straight through the bumper. I'm running a newer style winch, but the concept is the same.
