I ask at the A-Zone today about the ngk Iridium. 19 dollars and some change each. 160. 00 FOR A SET OF 8,:censored:,,:censored:. I think I will go over to the local pick-n-pull and start salvaging spark plugs.

I'm sure people will disagree with me, but on one of our jeeps? Iridium plugs are a waste of money. Hell, Platinum plugs are a waste of money. Just get your basic NGK V-Power copper core plugs (Or copper plug of your choice, I don't actually care what brand wets your whistle). I can't recall where I saw it, but the Iridium and Platinum plugs don't get you *any* better, and in most cases, actually less (I don't know how to describe it properly, you don't get "weak" spark, but a less "energetic" spark maybe?) spark than a copper plug. The tradeoff is, they're not intended to be changed as often, which is great for newer vehicles with extended maintenance intervals that are designed for it.

How many of us are running a set of plugs for 80K miles in a CJ?

The only real advantage to the high dollar exotic tip plugs in my opinion is rate of wear. I don't think any of us need a 100K mile plug in a 70 year old engine..

Agreed, I am beginning to think just buy the cheaper copper core non resistor plugs and replace them if they give a problem. A person can buy several sets of the cheaper ones compared to the iridium plugs at 160. a set.

IMHO once the ignition is upgraded with a MSD distributor, MSD 6A box and MSD blaster coil, the small investment in the iridium plugs makes the upgrade complete and quenches and second thoughts or questions on the ignition system. And BTW, it runs amazing. Just my experience, others may vary. I keep the coppers as trail spares.

I'm shocked to learn that sparkplugs aren't a dollar apiece anymore. I'm going to write to President Eisenhower about this!

Yep, I put two of them just in case. Both letters. I figured two might of not been enough for the North Pole letter( with the cost of dog food for sled dogs now days) to send it. But the letter to DC?.
