a big IF, I would not use the slant which was in this car, it’d have to be the super 6 225. But again Pete, just having a little fun;)

The Slant 6 can always be dressed up! Am I the only one that remembers the Red Baron by Ed Roth?

My wife has a 2000 Z3 M series. Absoutly the smoothest engine I have ever had the pleasure of driving.
Has a beautiful sound as well.
I'd love to say it was quick, but the gearing is so low that you can't row through the first three gears fast enough. Third through fifth is a hoot. Boosts like a two stroker coming on the pipe.
And, MAN can it straighten a corner.........................

I know you guys probably think I'm a little out of my mind sometimes! lol I did join a BMW forum to pick brains. But if I were to go the route of BMW, I'd probably buy an entire car like I did with the Miata for my TR6. That way I have everything, plus I'd get to tear apart something which I really enjoy for some reason:shrug:

My thoughts at least for the rear, bolt up the rear bmw subframe, minor surgery? :sneak:

The front presents a big problem, even if I were able to make it fit, that's the struts which also controls permantly fixed camber, but the engine and power steering rack are part of the system.

I know it's crazy, but its fun thinking about it. If I could just get a hold of a z3 for critical measurements:sneak:

While I won't disassemble anything, I'd be happy to give any basic measurements you're looking for.

The Z3 we have has had major upgrades from the original owner. About 8K invested in a fully adjustable suspension, bracing, aftermarket exhaust, spacers, the list goes on and on. It's black on black and when detailed, is gorgeous.

    Side story,
When I was a kid, my mothers best friend had a Jag XKE coupe with the V12. It was silver with black interior and the most beautiful car I had ever seen (we had a Rambler American and an Opel:cry:). She took me for a ride in it through the Santa Cruz foothills. I vividly remember looking over the hood and out at the road twisting ahead of us. When I dropped into our Z, the hood lines are the same. Shoots me back forty years. I get that same feeling every time I drive it.

What about the supercharged 3.8 from the mid 90's Buick Riviera, granted that's a transverse mounted FWD car so the driveline would have to come out of something else. Or, the Ford T-Bird SC, it was a RWD supercharged V6 with a 5 speed manual and Independent rear suspension! You get all the good stuff.. The beamer route is kinda cool, and very unique but I just have a stigma about fancy German cars.. Odd given my family name.. It's very similar to the character in the middle..

At the airport now , I hate traveling, hate airports, don’t mind car travel as much, I really think I’m becoming a recluse. Something we’re to happen to Gary, I’d never leave our area:rofl:

Remember when you were considering dropping $6,000 on just the front suspension.......
Bet you can get a whole BMW for $6k and swap drivetrain/suspension into the Dart. Could even throw a performance suspension kit on it.... or find an M series car to start with.
As far as that slant 6 goes........ It would work great for the restoration crowd...... or melted down and reincarnated as a boat anchor.

Remember people have a romantic view of the 60's/early 70's cars and their engines.....
They say "my uncles 350 Camaro was scary bad fast...." Maybe scary fast for the time..... if you compared it to a Rambler.....
In reality is was a gas guzzling turd that ran a 15 sec quarter mile on 6" wide bias ply tires.
There are lots of 4 cylinder powered cars on the road today that get 4x better mileage and make more HP than 99% of the muscle cars did in that era.
A 2.3L Mustang runs the 1/4 in 13.6 now days.....

If you're working the BMW route, don't forget they make a beautiful 4 cylinder as well. The 1 series and many of the Z's came with them. Our first two Z3's were four cylinder models and the engine was powerful, durable, and would rev to the moon.

Hey man, don’t harsh my memories with the facts!
At 20 years old (1975) I bought a ‘66 SS 396 that was scary fast.
Now I look at it with manual steering, undersized manual drum brakes and all of the repairs performed by the 20 year old me; the car was just scary. I have been blessed to survive some of the things I did.:coffee:
