I think elevation is an important factor here. You lose a lot of power as you go up from sea level. The OP says he's at 3000-7000 elevation. While the 75 hp from an f head might get you by at sea level, you go up to 7000 ft and suddenly you've lost 30% of that.

About the highest elevation I might be driving a Jeep would be Stratton Meadows which is around 4200 feet, but that would be an infrequent visit. The river where I do most of my trout fishing is all between 800 and 1500 feet. The last time I drove a Jeep in these areas was 50 years ago in one of the WW2 Jeeps I mentioned, and it got there just fine with the flat head L134, I expect the CJ5 with the F head will do fine for me as well.

Here where I live by Detroit, we are at 600' altitude, where my Cabin is, 250 miles North we are at 800' altitude, it is pretty flat in the lower peninsula the stock F134 does not have Asthma or any carb problems. With the V 6 axels I can get it up to 60+ mph. but don't. The speed limit on the two-lane roads was 55 in 2002 when I bought my Cabin, it is now 65mph. the nearest town is 13 miles, so I still go 55 and pull over for people to get by me. My Jeep works well for us going Forest Viewing in the outback, and to dinner once in a while. All is Good.

The previous owner's son told me he had driven the Jeep at 65 MPH when it was nearly new, but said it got a little scary.

I doubt I have ever driven it faster than 45 on the little backroads around here. I haven't gotten it out on the highway yet, but 45 - 50 is plenty fast enough in a Jeep to suit me. I can drive from my house to the Tellico river using back roads all the way, but I will probably just haul it up there on a trailer and drive the Jeep from camp to places I want to go to.

I hit 60 on the highway with Tonk, at least on the long straight level parts. :)

*Once* I hit 75 going down a hill- Never Again.

I made it to 81 mph on flat level ground at about 400 ft elevation.
WOT and all she had on a 1 mile straight away.
I tried not to be late again for work after that:D.
That was with a strong running standard F head pushing 5.38 gears and 25% overdrive.
My math indicates the engine was at 4000 rpm.

Dorris does fine, especially with the Weber tuned as it is. My other vehicle is a 9,000 lb diesel 3/4 truck. I’m liking Jeeps so finding something with more giddy up that I can wrench on would be fun. I’m retired, so I have lots of free time and find tinkering on them very relaxing.

Incredible! I'm retired and have never been busier. I don't know how I ever found time to go to work.
