Looks like a good start for a project. What are your plans, original restoration or modified?

I like the patina on it so my plan is to fix the rust and get it running and driving.

Here is a ‘66 tux park I just picked up. It has a title number sticker on it, so I’m going to see if I can track that down and get a vin on it. The Jeep has 4.27 axle gears which I’ll be using in my ‘66 V6 Jeep project.

Found the VIN on the frame when I pulled the tub off, 215872. This number was located on the passenger frame rail above the spring mount. A few things I found interesting on this jeep:

    1) It has 10" brakes
    2) It has a v6 ross box
    3) It has the small u joint front driveshaft found in v6 Jeeps
    4) The firewall has the dent to clear the v6 valve cover on the driver's side

So my question is, did all tux parks in '66 come through with these V6 parts even though it is a 4 cylinder jeep?

is that possibly an engine that's been swapped in?

No, the engine mounts are factory riveted in.

I have a painful question. I have one of the few ‘63 tuxes left and unfortunately the tub is pretty rotten (the entire floor front to back, rear fenders, and part of the sides would need replacing). What kind of blasphemy would I be committing if I got a different tub?

Less of a blasphemy than scrapping it.

You could get a new replacement, or look for a tub that needs less work. If the back half of the tub is rotted off, you are likely beyond the point where it makes sense to repair it.

Nate, first question; is that a serial tag covered by undercoat on the firewall above the heater box? The "215872" number has too many digits-should be only 5. The number should be stamped on top of RH frame rail just forward of the firewall. If it is "15872", that makes it a December '65 build date.
There were reletively very few F134 Tuxes built once the Dauntless was introduced, which I believe was around Sept/Oct '65. Almost all '66-up Tuxes were V6 powered. From Feb '64-up, the MKlV Tuxes (F134) had 10" brakes, 4:27 axles standard, column shift T90C w/single stick D18, and split bench seat standard.
I have not determined when the F134 cane shift was phased in, but believe it was around the Dauntless launch for the '66 model year. I assume thats a T90C in yours?
Your Tux has the "later" molded foam seats, the later parking brake plastic handle, the larger Ross steering box, and no dash cutout for the column shifter; all consistent for the '66 model year changes. I think the small U-joint also was a feature that came with the single-stick D18. It looks like yours has a twin-stick? Does the upper floor plate have a round hole for the single stick? It would be interesting to see it the D18 is a 4" large hole case, or the small hole case used in the column shift models (provided it is original to the Jeep).
You have an unusual Tux, being a '66 w/F134. They made them, but they are not well documented.

I pulled the serial from the frame when I removed the tub. It certainly looked like 15872 was well stamped. The first 2 may have just been scratches in the rust from when I cleaned it off. No evidence of it being a single stick transfer case. I pulled the transmission out of it and put a t90a in. I’ll double check it on being a t90c when the ice thaws out from inside it. I too wonder if it is a large hole Dana 18. It did have a block off plate where the single stick transfer case shifter would have been.

So this jeep pretty rare then? Too bad it is in such rough shape. The rear frame is broken, but could be fixed. It would be a very difficult restoration, but it could be done.

I don't think there was ever a "2" out front of the numbers on the chassis. The 15872 is your Tux's serial #. I'm pretty sure if there was a hole in the upper floor plate, it had a lever there originally.
I think there is at least one '66-up F134 Tux owner on the forum, but yes, these are pretty rare-maybe for a reason when a Dauntless was available.

I checked into the transmission today and it is a T90A, so someone swapped it all in.

Just got this Tux last week.
Supposed to be a 1964 tuxedo park Mark IV
    Serial 8322 12062
Floor shift, no sign of a column shift.
    Dauntless V-6
Most of the chrome pieces are still attached
    True barn find.

Check the dashboard where the steering column mounts. Is there some extra space in the dash cutout just above the column? Your serial number shows it would have been built in September, 1964, so it technically is a '65 model year. Your serial number pre-dates the Dauntless powered models. Your Tux originally came with an F134 and column shift with a single-stick transfer case. What is the original color? There were only 4 colors available in your timeframe.

I have some pictures on my build thread. The entire front floor is toast, the riser is bad, the fenders are mostly there, and the rear floor is also mostly there. I forget what the hat channels look like in the back. I just have a hard time coming to terms with not using the original tub on a Mark III.

Well mine is in similarly bad shape, and it's certainly not as rare as an original Mark III tub.....but I'm going for the refurb.
