    Walt timgr Thanks for replying
Breaker Cam got the part name now. thanks
Walt no Field Service Manual. Even the Army had TSM's and they WERE helpful.
timgr there was no fiber guy left on the points arm that rides on the Breaker Cam and there was some titanium transfer between the points flat surface faces on the old uniset (point and condenser on one plate) guy
timgr Grease the Cam, got it!
I still have to measure the Breaker Cams between the two engine's distributors. I will add to this later today with THAT test result using a dial caliper to measure it.
I am never going to learn the VERY helpful photo thing to post here, sorry Walt.
I may advertise for a replacement distributor soon too. I have a close deadline for a running Jeep.

Click and drag is all it takes for me…

If you are saying the fiber "heel" has worn away, then that's a big red flag. Timgr rightly says the cam must be greased - and if not, this is the result. Need a new point set.

Also true that worn out distributor shaft bushings will make the point gap (dwell) erratic and impossible to set accurately. But won't cause sudden failure.

Too busy to work on it, plan for Saturday. Saturday... Replaced 10 gauge wire from ignition switch to small inner lug on starter solenoid again.

There IS wear on the breaker cam. I have a start now. It ain't broke, ring a bell? Now, I have time to get a replacement breaker cam at a reasonable price for the future.

Finally got a start by getting the points correctly on the high lobe of the breaker cam. Set the dwell to 32 degree ish with meter box. I write 32 ish because the gauge is analog. Thanks to all for the help here. Dale
