Those are designed to Pull from the inside..... So the outside has an exposed area to the outside air & wind ? The less Fins that are Blocked , the more efficient a radiator is. From my knowledge, all ' Race' fans are on the inside , typically two of them . One high , one low.
Also, these fans are controlled by engine temp & radiator temps sending units . not by engine RPM's, of course.

There are pusher fans out there. I'm sure this is one. But supposedly pusher fans are less efficient than puller fans when it comes to radiators. I dunno I'm not an engineer lol

Ah this is good to know! This 258 is very tired with no real cooling issues. This is for piece of mind mostly.

The electric fan has been my primary cooling fan since I’m guessing around 2008/9. At the time I wasn’t aware the contour/Taurus fan was a thing, and this fan really didn’t fit on the engine side of the radiator. So I reversed the fan blade for front mounting (also incredibly tight) which does kill some efficiency vs pulling. I had bought a thermostat switch for it back then but was the wrong size. All of these years the fan has just been on a switch. Turn it on in town, turn it off on the freeway.

I’ve got a little time, bolt kit is not supposed to ship ‘till Thursday.
Also, a couple broken bolts in the timing cover, one water pump and 1 oil pan (like that when I got here, honest!).

Installed a new radiator a few weeks ago. Finally got around to building a shroud for it today. Idled for a about 10 minutes while I messed around with my steering stops, and the temperature held steady. Normally the temperature rises about 15-20 degrees after idling for an extended period, so the shroud certainly seems to help.

Was out of town all last week visiting for the holiday. Got the tire carrier all welded up last night.

Put a 33 up there and found I need a little adjustment.

Installed a JB Customs twin stick shifter for the Dana20. Had an issue with going into 4low, I had 2wd, 4wd, 2low but no 4lo, called customer service and they told me that some of the short clocked shifters on the T150/D20 combo would need the channel on the shifter sticks elongated a little due to a slight difference in height on some D20 shifter mounts causing them to run out of travel before the interlock pills were in the right spots. I pulled the levers out took the die grinder to them now I have 4low access. Made a quick ugly cover as the one that came with it wasn't large enough to cover the hole, but it works. Much nicer not having all that slop in the shifter linkage, much simpler design. They should have never moved away from the simple D18 twin stick setup.

It would be hard to make a dana 20 shift like an 18 with the gears being on independent shafts. The issue is that the gears are not in phase in all gear positions.

I just meant retaining the simpler twin stick configuration not necessarily shifting exactly like a D18. The single stick setup just had too many pivot/wear points IMO. This twin stick only has 2 pivots per shifter now, much simpler and a hell of a lot less slop. This was even after replacing everything I could easily on the single stick shifter.

Performed a little weight reduction. That winch never fit well up there, I had to butcher the mount to make it fit, and I was bored. It'll be better off on something else.

I ended up buying this floor jack to take on trips. My old 3 ton jack was leaking down and the handle disappeared after someone borrowed it.

Had a little time today to work on the CJ. Finished painting the bumper, tire carrier and rear crossmember.

Bolted on the fuel tank skid to put the nuts on the new crossmember. Marked and drilled. When welding on the nuts I used these counter sunk bolts to center the nuts in the hole.

Now today’s problem. Either my frame has become tweaked a bunch or the body has shifted. I’m thinking the frame.

It’s possible that neither could be. These frames are so flexy, it could be a difference in floor flatness or resting spring heights. Try throwing a jack under the RR before putting it together.

Our first plowable snow is on its way. Time to make the 3b ugly(er) again with a tire change and hook up the plow.
